Beginning the season...it appeared that Purdue'e roster was loaded with talent. Well...that has not played out as the season progressed. Tonight's game against Michigan was not the first time this season when it appeared Purdue was playing 3 or 4 on 5 with the only reliable, consistent players being Kaufman-Renn, Smith and Loyer with occasional contributions from Cox. Furst, Colvin, and Heidi do not show up most of the time. Zero, Zilch, Null from the bench tonight...and I believe it's not the first time that has happened this season. So...what appeared to be a promising future for Purdue basketball is rather murky, now. Thoughts?

I don't think that's too different from every Painter team. There's usually a big 3-4 then a large talent dropoff.
Is it impossible for Furst to finish a nice feed unless he’s wide open? Beating a dead horse topic here regarding Colvin, but I will continue to wonder how someone with his athletic ability is nothing more than a 3 point shooter. I saw his dad play ball once at the Co-Rec. Rosie may have actually been a better college basketball player.
To say Furst does not show up most of the time is just wrong. He does have trouble finishing and it is very frustrating, but his defense and rebounding has been a big part of turning this season around.
We're basically in a "rebuilding" year and a top 10 team at the top of the conference when it wasn't expected. Things are not nearly as bad as you are making them out to be, step away from the ledge.
The play that turned this game around was when TKR got the charge and it was just a bad decison by him. He had the angle that time, did not need to make that last push to finish. Game turned after that.
Yes - that was a tough one and unnecessary. TKR has been fabulous for the most part - just a few refinements/adjustments to avoid those would really make him be able to maximize utilization. Maybe BB slip him another old reel of Adrian Dantley....
You can see his frustration sometimes gets the better of him and takes him out of the game - he's learning though.....still great opportunities ahead.

Mostly agree except for defensive contribution; Colvin got 5 boards in 9 minutes of playing time. Realize he had a careless turnover but thought the coaches missed something last night as to who got what minutes.
For the first 6 weeks of the season Colvin and Heide were solid contributors. I cannot explain the drop off.
Wasn't Heide shooting around 60% for the first 5 games or so? I realize that it might have been lessor talent, but that doesn't explain it though Heide had 2 wide open 3s last night and did not have a prayer of them going in. I think he is like 1 for his last 12 in 3s.
Colvin's 3 has always been hit or miss. Of course, lately it has been miss. The biggest thing with him is that he used to drive to the basket. That doesn't happen anymore. He doesn't use his athleticism and quickness.

All true. But he's just not strong with the ball. Not sure if he has weak/small hands or what. But, he's definitely aggressive and throwing his body around. Just gotta finish at the rim.
Neither of those guys have any confidence dribbling the ball. Neither can can their defender 1/1 and get to the rim.
That MC or CH has the ability or confidence to try and take their defender off the dribble and get to the rim or into the paint. They both hang around the 3pt line waiting for the ball and then his the offensive glass when the shot goes up. It's frustrating neither has added the dribble/drive to their game.
They are very different kinds of players with different issues, but the common denominator I see is the inability to slow the game down and think beyond the moment they are existing in.
For example: 'where is the ball now?' vs. 'where is the ball going to be?'. Because of this, they are both deer in headlights.
Colvin is very athletic, but not sure he is a pure basketball player. Heide could be much better, but playing with zero confidence and not attacking the rim like he did last year.
Funny thing, there are heaps of players in the MVC and MAC that have the size/build of Heide and Colvin, that can dribble-drive to the basket. I wonder.......
Ah ah sorry. You had a typo and I couldn’t fully understand but do now. You’re saying they can’t take their guy 1/1. Gotcha. Yeah agreed. I’ll finally cave and say I agree there. Still not sure if they’ve been told not to and that’s why they don’t look/even try or if it’s they really can’t.
Paint in an interview last year— in the middle of the year, said Myles could get to his spot and get any shot he wanted. We saw some flashes of that but this year it seems he’s been shut off and it’s messing with his head. But we do also know paint likes to have his best scorers shoot the ball the most (not a bad strategy) but that can come back to bite you sometimes in situations like this.
In one thread posters blame the disparity in the amount of fouls called and blame the refs for losing! But in this thread the truth comes out. A bunch of the fouls were actually dumb fouls and the refs were not blind and called them.
I believe some you need to stop bad mouthing the refs and admit our players contributed to and deserved what the outcome of the game was.
How many times are people here going to say the other team got hot shooting threes? Maybe it’s time our guards starting playing more aggressive defense and denying them those attempts !! I know many times our guards don’t attempt 3 point shots because of the opposing defense. If you give a guy 5 feet, he’s going to take that shot and make it. It’s sort of like our dbacks giving receivers 10 yards
