ACC: 0-2, Duke and UNC play today.
Big 12: 3-1, Baylor, Iowa State and Arizona play today.
Big East: 2-0, Marquette, UConn, Xavier play today.
SEC: 4-2, Mississippi State, Alabama, Vanderbilt, Ole Miss, Florida, Kentucky, Oklahoma play today.
Big Ten: 4-0, Maryland, Illinois, Michigan State, Oregon play today.
Big Ten was the only conference where every team was the higher seed.
Yeah, the ACC obviously laid a massive egg. Louisville was thoroughly outclassed, and so was Clemson for 30+ minutes. Other than that, though, the power conferences did fine.
I was surprised by the margin of Georgia's loss but not that Gonzaga won. Arkansas scored a minor upset over Kansas, but the writing has been on the wall for Kansas most of the year.
I was a little surprised that Michigan/UC San Diego got so tight, but then again 5/12 games aren't supposed to be 20-point blowouts. I figured Yale would make it competitive against A&M.
Michigan was another team, besides Purdue, Seth Davis said would be upset in game 1.
I wonder if his co-anchors will call him out?? They should. As he's wrong alot.
He is listed first round in all mock drafts NBA believes in potential. If he doesn't make it blame phycological evaluation and work effort not talent. IMO
Yes, for sure, saw his name on most drafts early. Lately though his name is missing from most drafts even into Round 2. But things can & will change as NBA workouts start. Alot of potential, for sure.
I will switch channels with the crew that has Seth and Candice. Why do they put such negative people on? There are plenty of knowledgeable and at least somewhat camera friendly folks out there that are not nearly as offputting as those two.
Michigan was bailed out by the refs, yet again last night.
KU lost KJ Adams, who brought them
Back and got them in the lead and the tore his Achilles. All went down hill for KU after that.
I'm happy the Big10 was 4-0, but every team beat a double-digit seed. I know (painfully) that upsets can happen but feel that the big tests have yet to come. I root for the other B10 teams but only really care if the Boilermakers win.
Both High Point and UC San Diego were great picks for upsets and they both played pretty well and came up short. They showed why they were popular picks. Same for Drake and McNeese State.
It's fine to say High Point acquitted themselves well and came up short. I would add that there were stages of the game where Purdue did not play particularly great. But, before that narrative runs out of control, I think it's equally important to acknowledge a couple other things:
1) Purdue led for the entire last 29 minutes of the game.
2) Purdue beat the spread and espn's BPI predictor.
High Point played well, as you correctly point out. But, this was hardly a near-death experience for Purdue.
It wasn't near death, but it wasn't a blowout. High Point kept it close enough basically all game where any small run could have given them a shot, and that's really all a lower seed like that needs. I think they showed why they were a popular pick.
It's amazing how often this has happened this year.
We too have been the beneficiaries of some favorable calls, but the refs always find a way to "balance" things out with makeup calls. Case in point, see 2H of last night's game...
