Doesnt sound like a lot happened to talk about. I like Yancey and the french kid at slot. Presuming that moves faster smaller guys like Phillips, Hart, and Posey to the outside where they can beat smaller corners and use their speed more.

Given the lack of cohesion we have seen offensively the last two years, I wish they would just pick a starter and keep him with the 1's. If another guy looks better with the two's, then switch him, but Im not a fan of just rotating them in and out every practice. Especially with three qbs. I have certainly seen a next man in approach work, it just hasnt so far with Haz.

Yancey and Mahoungou are working at the X receiver spot, which is on the outside. There's no plans that I know of right now to move them inside.

Phillips did move, though, from the X to the Z, which is the other outside spot. Hart and Posey, among others, are working in the slot.

Thanks Stacy. I obviously dont have my playbook down. Whats slot called?

I know he's listed as a RB now, but I always wanted to see what Jonathan Curry would do at the H.

They do use some of the TEs in an H-back type of role, which is different than a slot receiver. Sometimes that position can be called "Y," but not in Purdue's offense.

It is similar to this I assume?

I think this is Etlings job to lose. we finally have the recievers that fit his arm style. If we can get him and Yancey to get their chemistry back, a healthy Anthrop, along with our Frenchman, I think we could finally have a respectable passing game. The problem this season may be the TEs need someone to establish themself before the season starts.

Once we get back from Spring Break and get into the meat of the spring practice with live scrimmages and hitting I certainly "HOPE" whoever they think is their 1st Team QB never takes any reps with the 3rd unit as they are right now. Purdue cannot start this carousel or rotation of QB's and waste valuable spring and practice time with their first unit again!

Setting up an offense with each individual QB's strengths and weakness is a nightmare for the team's success! Let the QB that fits your system the best run the team or change your system to fit your best QB to run the team!

Given the QB think, I don't think it's a big issue in Spring ball. As a matter of fact, it might even be helpful at this point. The Problem you have right now is even if you give all the 1st team reps to Appleby, you still really don't know who your first team guys are. Can you say without a doubt you know who is going to be the starting WRs and RBs right now? I bet you could only get the 2 deeps about 50 percent right from what it will actually be, and then on top of that there will be injuries, so spreading the reps around to the different guys may seem counter productive for cohesion, but I see it as a chance to really see who stands out together. If you have guys who are toss ups in the rotation, but seem to have really good chemistry with a particular QB, you may end up going with particular lineups, instead of just guys who seem to be the top guys at the postion. Just my thoughts. Gives the rest of the offense a chance to step up and take a spot as much as it showcases what the QBs can do.

Dr,, why not rotate the RB's and WR's that are looking good up to the first unit rather than moving the #1 QB down? I want whoever my starting QB working with the same line as much as possible in the spring especially since we seem to want to speed things up this fall!

Ehh. I don't totally buy that. Id say that the 2 deeps won't be impacted too much by newcomers in the fall. Now, there will be a bit of shuffling between first team, second team, LB spots, safety spots...but I feel like I could pretty easily tell you who the starters will be across the board on both sides of the ball EXCEPT at the QB position.

Now, Prince and Cermin are out and that's not helping for OL depth, but I don't think it changes that those guys are starters day 1. It helps work Yocoobi and some other younger guys in...getting them experience to hopefully be the depth that the line has sorely lacked the past 4-5 years. I think at DL there are clear starters at each position and clear backups. Same with LB. Same with Corner, with Hunte being #3. With Safety...it looks like 3 guys for 2 spots....and once they pick the 2 guys they will then pick which spot.

All in all, I LIKE the depth this coach has seemingly built. BUT...is this depth because the 1s aren't that much better than the 2s? That doesn't necessarily bode well. I am a firm believer though that with solid (read:better) playcalling and scheming....this is a 6-6 team last year. The offense is holding this team back and making the D look worse than it actually is. I think that as the offense improves (maybe? hopefully?) the strides the D has made will be better noticed and realized and lead us to some wins. If we finally break through and get back to a bowl, I think the past 2 years will have been worth it. We will have cleansed the bad juju, the bad recruiting (yes, recruiting is more than stars and Florida speed), the bad attitude and will be building something that can be sustained and will only get better.

Even if this year ends poorly, I still think Hazell will have 1 last shot with a new OC...and we are bound to be better then with most likely 4 multi year 5th year players on the OL.

Wrong. Right now, Appleby and Blough are the odds on favorites. Etling has not shown that he has the fortitude and intangibles to be the answer at QB.

I still don't understand how appleby isn't the starter. Yes the last games were bad. He showed more than danny ever did in almost two seasons.

Plus with his intangibles I think being the clear cut number one would bring some fire to the whole team. Similar to how when Ray established himself as a defender and one of our top guys made it easier for bball team to buy into him as a leader.

Doc,

For some random team I would tend to agree, but I do think 50% is a bit low. I bet the coaches know 80%ish of their starters. They havent made a secret of trying to increase competition to increase tenacity for the team in the fall. On paper, I buy it. For this team now, with the last two years, I dont. I also dont understand why we have to move the QB's to evaluate them. Perhaps they are looking for chemistry. Im just tired of watching guys that look like they have no idea what the other 10 are up to.

Applebys arm is limited. I would take the best I have seen of Etling over the best from Appleby at this point. Its easy to forget, but that kid made decent reads and got pounded for a good chunk of 2013. That said, I dont know how any of them are performing now.

It will be interesting to see how often they do this. I would think you would almost default to 4wr unless some TE's blow you away.

Although they have certainly shown a preference of having players adapt to a scheme instead of vice versa.

Between Herdman, Jurasavich, Burke, Carvajal and the 2 big guys coming in...we'll have options at TE. They might not be great blockers....but neither was Gabe Holmes....and he couldn't even catch! Sinz was sundial slow. I just think that anybody who can catch and block a little will be an upgrade

Well... if there was any position I could see emerging, I think TEs has a good chance because I really like the coach they brought in, at least the pedigree.
