Had a story posted and tweeted quickly as soon as I saw David Blough in the lobby in Mollenkopf, but late being "official" here. Blough isn't a surprise, obviously. (Though it was interesting for him to admit he felt some pressure early in camp, having not been named yet.)
Spoke with Hazell and Blough. Most interesting thing from Hazell, I think, was that he said he told Blough not to worry about looking over his shoulder (getting yanked). Said evaluation of every position happens week-to-week, but he doesn't look at this as a week-to-week proposition in terms of the starting QB.
Certainly the best-case scenario is Blough finishes the season because that likely would signal some kind of success. And Hazell is obviously being optimistic that will happen with Blough.
Blough's the right choice. He's gotten better since the end of last season under Tim Lester's guidance and in Terry Malone's offense in terms of understanding what's asked/expected of him and being able to execute those things. He said his football knowledge is as high as it's ever been. That's a credit to him but also Lester in how he's teaching these guys about coverages and how to attack them as well as Malone simplifying the offense so that the QBs can go in with a plan instead of doing a bunch of post-snap reading.
Will update the story that's up right now soon and also get the videos posted from Hazell and Blough.
