Darian DeVries to IU

You mean replacing some of those teams with Murray State weakened the conference??
Current MVC: Bradley (9), Drake (8), Evansville (4), Illinois State (5), Indiana State (7), Missouri State (6), Murray State (18), Northern Iowa (8), Southern Illinois (10) , and UIC (3). Granted, losing Creighton was a big loss.
( ) = NCAA Tournaments
Yes, it did. Number of tournament appearances isn't really meaningful as someone from the small conferences has to go.

All but the first sentence. They just aren't going anywhere. Self isn't moving to another school. Few is moving. Drew is at his perfect school. Otz isn't leaving. Scheyer isn't leaving Duke. Etc. guys just aren't leaving. When Izzo retires, Michigan State won't get a big named super home run hire. They'll likely go the same route Indiana did. Purdue will probably do the same when Painter retires. I mean getting a coach from a Power conference team is a big enough of a deal to me. Kind of reminds me of Self going from Tulsa to Illinois to Kansas. Don't know if DeVries will ever be on that level though.
Pitino, Calipari, and Miller say hello.

It’s interesting how the dynamic in the state has changed. IU basketball has a lot of resources at its disposal, but Purdue is the program gaining national attention for its roster moves and construction.

Purdue is truly emerging as a national program and brand.
Well 8 years of complete incompetence will help that. Miles and Conerway(committed at 11:30pm last night) went under the radar. Wilkerson's blew up because it was between Indiana and Kentucky. And Kentucky fans went off the rails afterwards. DeVries has to show some progress in year one and things will be fine for Indiana. A real coach with resources can be incredibly successful.

You understated it. Purdue is not "emerging." Purdue is there.

IU has the ability to be there too; there's certainly a precedent for both schools kicking ass at the same time. But for now; Purdue is there and IU is working at it.

Sure, but my comment was more about Purdue than it was IU.

Disclaimer, I am not from Indiana, but went to Purdue from 90-95 and still loyal to my Boilers. And this isnt a response to you BoilerDaddy

I found the dynamic interesting, I was thrown into the rivalry with Knight vs Keady. Knight played the perfect villain to me as he truly was an asshole, even his closest friends would admit...ask Coach K, lol

But the rivalry among Indiana born always frustrated me. For example, i had roommates that went to Purdue that openly rooted for IU basketball over Purdue which pissed me off and made me believe they had no heart to not root for their school as at that point I no longer rooted for Ohio State, even in football and those were the Jim Colleta years, bleak at best.

But I also hate threads like this, the complex that Purdue fans have about being in IU's shadow even though we have had at least 20 years of dominance over IU. I love being the underdog, who cares what IU is doing, they can have their delusions that they still matter on a national level. I honestly do not care about their recruits or who they hire as head coach, let the IU fans come over talk trash, its not relevant.

But back to the response, the dynamic switch is very interesting. I remember IU winning a couple of championships in the 80's, I have no problem admitting I am jealous of past success of IU, would love to win a championship, hopefully next year. But 100% for sure Purdue has dominated the rivalry under Painter, and yet IU fans still talk like they are favorites or their success wasnt from the 70's and 80's over 30 years ago.

Heck I remember Alan Henderson vs Glenn Robinson debates and who was better from my freshman year.. Who had the better college career again?

Purdue has been better for a long time, but it has taken a lot longer to shift the brand perception. I remember walking into local Indianapolis area department stores as little as 10 years ago and seeing huge displays of IU gear (along with Colts and Pacers gear) next to maybe a handful of Purdue items, if that. It wasn’t like that everywhere, but it was not unusual.

I have nothing against IU. I have several family ties to the school and actually like to see them have success (as long as they aren’t playing Purdue). But, I like seeing Purdue gaining national and local respect, at the same time.

It’s a shame the 1980 FF team had to run into Lou Al Cinder in the championship game, Big Dog screwe up his back, Robbie, well we all know that story. And finally I think the Covid Debacle that enabled 25 year olds to play, really hurt Purdue in the 2 previous tourneys.
Ok excuses are for losers.
Let’s get it done this year👍
