Dane Fife Return To Being A Loosier

Not debating the Izzo/Painter tree success...Painter is much younger, but, I am just pointing out that nobody from Izzo aside of Crean that I can think of has gone on to do anything anywhere.

I am sure that he was the lead recruiter, and, he obviously was involved, but, I am confident that it was the least important factor in either guy committing to MSU. Izzo has dominated in Indiana/Indianapolis for years...well before Fife...and, he will continue to do well after Fife.

Ultimately, Dane Fife's name had not come up in conversation for any other job...and it was unlikely to...I am not saying he is an awful coach or anything close...but, I am not of the opinion that he is any sort of savior by any means either...not like he did anything to make MSU overly special, and, I doubt that he will do anything of significance at IU either is all that I am saying.
FIfe has the personality of a rock. He was whiny at IU, complained about every foul called on him. Sorry, but as an IU fan at that time, I never cared for him much and couldn't get excited about him.

I do believe there was chatter within the IU brotheren. Also, a kid that plays with a bunch of 5*'s and does fairly well even after in injury or would you like the player that has never progressed in 2 yrs at IU. Stats can be very deceiving....don't fall for it.
Brooks is a decent player but he's a twenty-some % shooter from 3. The last thing IU needs is another bricklayer from outside. And with Woodson saying he wants to bring the 4 out/1 in offense to IU, the team needs more shooters. I do believe TJD is trying to 'recruit' him because of their past friendship via travel ball, but I think bid daddy will trump any friendly tweets from TJD. I don't this Brooks-to-IU rumor is a good fit for Brooks or IU.

Edit- story breaking this morning that he's staying at UK, so all is moot.

Would have been surprised if Woodson wanted him. Or felt pressure to take him. With his IU pedigree, he should have more latitude with the goober portion of your fan base, as far as recruiting the kids he wants, and not just the highest ranked flavor of the month.

Agree...and, more so on the heels of the awful interview that he did yesterday with Dakic in what is now the daily IU lovefest...I can barely listen to the show at this point, and, that was just more garbage...if I hear one more time that the key at IU is "insulation" and keeping it internal and within the family...I will indeed vomit. There is no wonder that there is such delusion in the fanbase when you listen to the clowns that perpetuate it as former players like Dakic, Fife and Hillman.

Here's my deal with the current love fest.

When Knight was fired, they should have immediately brought Alford home....or another IU guy. When they hired Davis, IU fans knew it was only a short time until he was going to show his true inability to coach at the elite level and he was never considered a "Knight guy".

He was hired to recruit the south, to get more athletic players. Knight had already made the statement that he was going to fire Davis that year.

And that's one reason PU with Painter has done more because he understood what it meant to be a Boiler. Davis had no clue, Kelvin just wanted a big payday and away for the pressure that was on him. Crean...the guy did the best he could, but he was an Izzo guy, just like Fife. And Miller....I really believe the little guy became very disillusioned with the Indiana fan bases expectations and got to the point he really did not give a red rat's ass.

I do expect Woody to do pretty well. Not hanging banners well, but he'll bring more wins, a pro offense, tough nosed defense, and will contend for a B10 title in two to three years.

Here is what rumored candidates were saying:

Iona > IU
Nevada > IU

The Alford story was written by an IU grad with a journalism degree. Note the emotional, unprofessional rant.

Not to rain on this so-called journalist, After the Knight firing, Steve made the statement after not getting the IU job and the way he was treated (want to know more share your email) that he would never come back to IU as a coach. If you've looked at Nevada's roster, they're picked as a Top 20 team next year, are predicted to win the Mountain West which is getting a whole lot tougher, and some are predicting with the right breaks, a run at a Final Four. Nevada, which I watch because of Steve and the MW is loaded and play very solid basketball.

That was a really, really bad article.

Nowhere did Jon Rothstein claim that Alford contacted him to say he's not interested. Only, "sources"...

Now... the butthurt IU people can twist "sources" into Alford reaching out to get out in front of the Jeff Goodman tweet, but that's quite a stretch, and serves only to advance their narrative.

It's bush-league, and more evidence how far "journalism" has fallen.

It's appropriate to rain on this so-called journalist. In fact, it's appropriate to pi$$ on him. His bio says he has a degree in journalism from IU, but his work shows that he is a run-of-the-mill blogger with a platform to rant. As Purdue85 said, it shows the current state of journalism.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. 😂
