At halftime against a ranked team, we are tied (and frankly should've been up 7 because I don't think Jones stepped out) and this board is quiet as can be. No game thread. Only Boiler in TX occasionally posting with 2-3 other posters.

We get blown out in the second half and everyone is now here posting and complaining.

Interesting take on our fan base.

Not that we were going to win...but depth isn't the only problem. Injuries put us out of this game fast. Down like 4-5 DBs. Having to play Edy Wilson even though he was out hurt. Having basically every OL go out injured and miss time this year except the center.

Yeah, we aren't deep but I can't think of many teams that would stop Penn St down that many players.

wasn't posting today because I was watching the game w/ my wife, a provincial psu fan, about two sentences were exchanged during the whole debacle.

Just seems like so many posters here get more excited about us losing a game than they do about us tied at half against a ranked team. It's a testament about how far we've fallen as a fan base.

Boilermaker Life Alert.....we could make a killing in Indiana alone.

Much of the fanbase has checked out. Of the ones still following, many are simply indifferent. The empty seats and scarce traffic here speak volumes. No one expects to win, or even compete. Personally, I was excited to still be in it at half, but just waiting for the inevitable. It's going to be a long month until this is over, punctuated by a beatdown in Bloomington. Hope they get the next hire right.

No, it is just a testament to reality. Many of us here realize that Purdue is in a situation that would be hard to find victories...even if the entire team was healthy. When the team is precariously thin to even start the season...and then suddenly be down your best DL, your best 2-3 backup CB's, lose your second best DL, and then have a totally makeshift OL and lose your best WR, honestly what would you expect.

On paper, Purdue shouldn't even be competing against Nebraska and PSU...the fact that the team competed well in the first half shows the culture shift that is already taking place. The reality is, the deeper and more talented team will win and go away at the end of games unless they shoot themselves in the foot. When Purdue gave up 14 points off TO's in the 3rd quarter, that is just something they can't afford to do.

To win a game the rest of the season, Purdue is going to have to jump on someone and get a 14-17 point lead in the first half and probably hang on for dear life in the second half if the other team doesn't commit TO's and penalties.

I don't blame our fans when it comes to football. Our team has given us ample reason to doubt them.

It's the crowd that does the same thing with the basketball program that is telling. That program has been pretty good under Painter. Not perfect. Not without a bad slide for a couple of seasons. But we have seen Big Ten titles and NCAA tournaments. Sweet sixteens and players who you could feel about cheering for.

Yet all a certain group of people want to do is bitch. I learned long ago that those people don't really know what they are talking about. They are pretty much professional bitchers. So when the same people that had been calling for Painter to be fired for years were over here citing improved performance as a reason that Hazell had to go in the middle of the season, I just kind of laughed, rolled my eyes, and mocked them a little.

You're "bitching" about the "bitchers", did that accomplish anything?

And now you've bitched about me bitching about the bitchers? So if you are correct, it seems every bit as hypocritical as you seem to think I was.

That said, this is a discussion board and I don't mind discussing the topic that someone else put forth. If you don't like that, so be it. You've expressed that which you are obviously entitled to do. It's not going to change what I do though.

Didn't "bitch" about you "bitching", I asked you a question. No one is going to change what you do on this board. I just asked a question and got a shallow reply.

You got a shallow reply to a shallow question. As if most anything that is discussed on this board does any good to anyone.... We aren't exactly curing cancer here.

Most people don't spend a lot of time commenting on reruns.

Worst fan base in the Big Ten, and it's not even close.

Agree with boilerpt too, we just have so few fans left who care

And when some fans have been enthused to see positive changes and recent competitiveness, others quickly shoot that down with continued negativity

I am ashamed at how foolish I was in claiming the team would improve immediately after firing Hazell. TC4THREE called me on it and won't let me get away with it. At this rate I'm going to be a bigger liar than Hillary and Trump combined.

Fixed it for you.
