Cuonzo Resigns

I saw that Lorenzo Romar was finally fired at Washington after doing less with more the past 4 to 5 seasons than anyone not named Crean. So Porter's dad already left UW for Missouri? That's a good pickup for suitcase Cuonzo if that ends up being the case, but Porter Jr. is likely one-and-done so then what is he going to do? I think Missouri's AD is giving Morgan Burke a run for his money on coaching hires.
Complete dbag troll.

Complete dbag troll.

how so?

He's been the HC at three different DI schools (SW Missouri State, Tennessee, California) for only three seasons each now. That would be my definition of a HC that's always on the move. It's becoming a trend with him now.

Maybe Zo doesn't run enough zone.....

I know you're saying it ironically, but you could be right. His team's man D got lit up at home by CSU-Bakersfield last night. They were trailing 44-19 at halftime...at home...to CSU-Bakersfield.

I'll stand by my comment. Anyone that comes on here badmouthing a former Purdue player that has done nothing wrong, is a dbag in my book. The guy is looking to move closer to home, and Missouri is a historically superior program in my opinion.

They also played without 2 of their important players. Last years tourney they were decimated by injury right before it started. They've gotten some high quality players but he's been pretty unlucky. I do find it odd how quickly he is willing to leave a school although it was looking like Tennessee was a year away from running him out before he went to Cal.

If you know the halftime score, then you also know they were missing their top two scorers for the game. Convenient you left that out.

I love Zo, but his career is starting to look a little Larry Brownish, if we're being honest. 4 schools in 8 years?

he's starting to remind me of lane kiffin. bring in highly recruited players, but not really coaching them. and when the players leave, make sure you leave with them and then find a new place and new placers who drink your kool aid.

And no I didn't like football coach parker either despite the love many on this board had for him.

And the truth comes out, which I'm sure many of us suspected. You hate Zo because he doesn't play zone D.

There may be more to your hatred. If you had a chance to improve your position in your career, would you take it? Maybe you have never had that opportunity, so it's obviously impossible for you to comprehend.

he hired a player's dad to be able to sign the player, who was already a hard commit, but for some reason refused to sign his LOI. ??? That has red flags all over it.

Most players commit to coaches not the schools. The Porter boys wanted to play for Romar but he was fired. Their sister plays at Missouri where they moved from. I'm not crazy about signing relatives to get kids but it's not like there wasn't a big Missouri connection for the family.

my answer to your question would be no. I had that opportunity and turned it down. my family was more important to me than accepting the 6 figure job that was offered to me. if a company is loyal to me, I'm loyal to the company. and that's the same with most educators. Very seldom do you see a qualified teacher or professor job hopping from one school to another unless they were fired. that band director and first grade teacher are there forever, because they love what they do. in reality, very few people change jobs as much as Zo has in the past 8 years. Very few people in reality do that climb the ladder to better themselves stuff.

he may have been at many teams.... But
-leaving mizzou st was for a major program
-leaving Tennessee wasnt really his choice (?)
-leaving cal to be closer to home, and nearly double the pay (And more than painter)

if his record is good (as it has been at every stop), I imagine he will be at mizzou for some time

It doesn't matter. That's an excuse. From what I've read in Rabb's case, it appeared that he could have played but decided against it. They still have enough talent on their roster to avoid getting blown-out at home by a low-to-mid-major quality program. Martin is not that good of a DI coach and he bolted as soon as some pressure was going to be on him at UC-Berkeley.

Martin was a very good player at Purdue. That doesn't mean that he's a good college head coach or that he should ever be the HC at Purdue.

Didn't he coach a full season at Cal without a signed contract or something? Never quite understood what was going on there and maybe that had something to do with his willingness to move on? Just speculating. I think his reasons for leaving Tennessee were clear and justified.

If Matt had gone10-8 with the roster Martin had folks would be screaming to have him fired!

I think most over value Martin a considerable amount.

But I would get the hell out if Cali too. Who wants to live there?

Painter = 2.3m/yr.
cuonzo = 3m now.
Illinois supposedly offering 4m.

bobinski may have some work to do in bball again soon
or n.cross will send us another email reminder

I've seen reports linking him to both the Missouri and Illinois jobs.

I have to say, I'm a little surprised. I know Zo is from East Saint Louis and all, but he seemed to be bringing in talent at Cal. I'm not sure that I'd say either Mizzou or Illinois is a better job right now. Plus, that would be four head coaching gigs in 10 years. Is Zo following the Tom Penders coaching plan?

I don't know how much truth there is, but you keep hearing Zo might've been on his way out at Cal anyways as he's kind of under achieved compared to the talent he has recruited.

Better to jump while you are still considered a hot coach and have options.

I think the issue, if any, is that while it may not be his fault in all cases, but the impression is obviously he's hopping around to the next shiniest object, which I don't think is a great reputation. He basically needs to stay at Mizzou for a while, which it's closer to home and I think more his style vs. Cal.

The question is obviously if he can not only get to be successful, but sustain that success. He's never been anywhere long enough to really know.

Well he got a 7 year contract with Missouri so I don't think he'll be jumping anywhere.

It's a great spot. I'm actually surprised Crean didn't jump on it. Good for zo.

I never got the Crean jumping from IU thing. To me, Glass can't even allow that because it sure isn't going to help their reputation when coaches are now willingly bailing for a better situation. Talk about hurting your reputation.

doesn't sucking hurt your rep? i thought it would be more of an amicable breakup situation.

No problem with him moving from me. He got a better offer and took it. I really don't want to rehash the whole Butler argument again, but this is what coaches do. If they are offered more money they will do one of two things:

1. Leverage your current school to give you more money.
2. Take the new job that pays more.

If you don't feel you are in a position to do #1 or you just like the opportunity better at the new school you take it. I think this is the case with Martin. 7 years $21M, he is set for life, not my place to be judging that decision.

If he could get Jeremiah Tilmon (assuming he asks for release from Illinois) to go with Porter, he could get a nice jump start at Mizzou.

And zone would have fixed that? At some point you have to understand that bad D is bad D no matter what type you employ.

This from a guy who suggested in another thread that we poach players from IU now that Crean was fired. Hypocrite much?

You are talking about tenured jobs in education. And I know several professors who have changed jobs to work at more prestigious universities for higher pay. And if you want to talk about private industry, it happens all the time, especially on the east and west coasts.

Rather than follow your morality for changing jobs, people are allowed to make their own judgement as to what is best for their families. You say you stayed for the sake of your family. Some people move for the sake of their family. Cuonzo said as much. Why judge him for it?

I thought he would get another year considering the injuries and last seasons results.

I'll say Alford, he likes to bounce around a lot and probably wearing his welcome out at UCLA.
i hope it's alford. iu fans will be so disappointed.
