It wasnt even a defensive culture Matt played PJ over Johnny and Cline/Mathias over Stephens. Not to mention having Smother man/Weatherford on the bench redshirting. Never going to end well when you let players sit out you need everyone bought in for this season.. He really only consistently played two defensive minded players.
We definitely need to change our defensive nature and start changing it to offense. Clearly the great defense isn't getting us anywhere.
Team was soft as DQ ice cream on a hot night in August, mentally and physically, all year!
And Hill finished out the last two games making moves he dreamed about ... but weren't there to make. Painter should not have had Hill in there at the end against LR after that wishful move he made at the end against MSU.

I think its all in the mindset of the players, which comes from the coach! Some players will always make the putt on the 18th hole to win, while some will always choke and miss. Whatever you are thinking, give it your best shot, if you go down fine, but never play scared.
Hill made a good move...yes he was fouled/hooked but this system isn't working. Unfortunately this does fall on our coach which a change probably won't happen. We will stayed mediocre for some time. Great coaches show grit and fire....Painter shows none of that.
defense needs to be A focus, but you should not completely give up offense for the sake of defense. especially mediocre defense.
average or worse defense was played by guys who were just about 0 threat to score, who would shoot it only if forced to. you know who i mean
any number of guys could have contributed as much on d and still taken an occasional shot.
what happens to these guys when they get to purdue is not normal. they live there whole life trying to score. painter takes that out of them.
MP=DH make no mistake, take a knee, don't beat yourself except that is what you do when you play also conservatively. can either one change? I'm sure they are good men but their philosophy will get you beat
as far as next year, if BS, GW can't beat out PJT stand JH. there will die plenty of minutes available at the guard spot
