IU vs ND is ESPN2 and our game is BTN. It's bullcrap. Of course it's bias. Not sure how much is due to us not getting any preseason respect and IU being ranked at the start. We should be used to this by now. Sadly.
I'd say that our Boilers have a long way to go if they hope to prove themselves. These guys could bring Purdue to the point where those 3 networks are fighting to broadcast them.Saw a news article talking about how the IU vs ND game will be on ESPN and the Purdue vs Butler game will be on BTN. Is there any bias?
What do you think?
Do all your talking on the court, and I'm not talking trash talking.....then at some point, you'll have to get noticed. And in the end, isn't that the most satisfaction?
It's not bias.
It has to do with TV partners. Last year, IU/Butler was on FS1 - the Big East's TV partner.
The Notre Dame/IU game is presented on ESPN2 as an "ACC Basketball" game - with ND participation in the ACC and ESPN having a major deal with ACC. Also, there are 2 football games that were scheduled months ago during our game on ESPN/ESPN2.
There's obviously a rotation on TV rights.
I agree, but again, everyone's going at this like it was some snub. The TV coverage rotates amongst partners. ND is an ACC basketball school and the game is being billed as an ACC Basketball game on ESPN. Last year, IU/Butler was on FS1, the home of Big East basketball. The BTN is the home of Big Ten basketball. ESPN has 2 football games scheduled during our game time - those times weren't set yesterday. Going into the season, IU/ND was considered a more "prime" game. It's not like the TV networks got together and were like "screw Purdue" last week.
Maybe others are......and that's ok with me......I'm not taking it as any "snub" of Purdue, Ilbodel or that somehow the Boilers "deserve" more attention.....I meant it as a more global thought, and Purdue is getting attention already. I fully understand how the scheduling works. The Boilers will get plenty of opportunities to show what kind of TEAM they are......this weekend is just another step/opportunity.....and I don't care if it's on the Farm Bureau Network or the BTN, ESPN, etc. or just some local bar in Monticello or Logansport.
Frankly, I think Purdue is getting more attention than I thought or expected, and it's humorous to poke fun at some of the analysts or voters either way.....they set themselves up sometimes.

don't think it's bias but like the start time, 5 pm . it's been so warm out here in the East , I've been outside alot passing on watching some sporting events on TV. On a side note, it's about time we win one of these Crossroads games.Don't do it.....

ESPN will be showing Ohio vs. Appalachian state football game. Wow, wise choice ESPN.
It's a bowl game that the TV coverage was decided in May.
Purdue vs. Butler is the prime time game though. I was hoping CBS would pick it up. Its the two best teams in Indiana.
CBS could have picked up this game, but declined. As I said before, these guys need to establish a culture of winning so that the broadcasters fight over broadcasting them.I think CBS is showing the tO$U at Kentucky game. That will be a great matchup. tic

The issue is that TV coverage is decided well before the season starts for almost all games. Going into the season, both games would have been decent pick-ups, but ND/IU was probably more lucrative based on preseason rankings and also TV ratings (if we're going to be honest, IU gets a lot better TV ratings than Purdue - and it's not exactly rare for "ratings" to trump pure match-up, no different than how well you travel can trump team quality in terms of bowl selection).
This isn't like football where they can decide TV coverage the week or 2 before the game is played based on what game will be best.
I'm sure BTN is thrilled with how things have worked out. ESPN better hope IU has better interest from their fans in watching on TV this weekend than they have shown in recent home attendance.
Speaking of attendance, I noticed someone on the Butler board say they called to get a ticket to the classic and the only section that had tickets left open was IU. Purdue, Butler and ND all sold all of their allotted tickets. That is just sad considering how much we hear IU thump their chests that they always sell out everywhere they go.

Makes sense. There are a lot more McDonalds in Indy than science and engineering companies.IU fans are a lot better than Purdue fans at showing up for these games, like it or not.
