One day I walked in and noticed a guy with a Purdue hat on sitting in the stands. I made sure to sit close to him. Struck up a conversation about the PU hat. Explained my connection and we started talking. I brought up Harris and told him how hopeful I was that we would land him. The dude looks at me and says my wife played for Purdue and is probably Joy Harris's best friend "and I can tell you that Gary is not going to Purdue". I did not say much more, but remember thinking that was a strong statement. Shrugged my solders and left with high hopes he did not know what he was talking about. At the time we were very much in the hunt. Several months later, Bam, Gary commits to MSU

To this day I wish I would have asked a few more questions. Anyway, not accusing anyone of wrong doing, just remember the conversation.

This is hearsay so take it with a grain of salt, but at the time of the Harris recruitment I talked to someone who knew the family who told me that the Harris family had ethics concerns with Pitino. Louisville was not a finalist for Harris despite making him a top priority.

I heard no such concerns about Izzo, Painter, or Crean.

I think there were some hard feelings in the area of WBB coaches that are reflected in that statement. Mrs Harris might have had an ax to grind. Probably not related to shoe contracts. At least that is my best guess.
