He will do well at Miami of Ohio for sure......

So who do you think Painter hires as the next Assistant Coach?

Does everyone move up a notch?

Greg Gary become Associate Head Coach?
Kenny Lowe move up to an Assistant Coach role?

Who do they bring in if anyone?

I wish Coach Owens well....great man and did well at Purdue and is his time to run the show.

Boiler Up!

Hire Romeo's dad to replace him

Wow, what an opportunity!

Congratulations and good luck!

Hopefully, he'll bring stability and respectability back to that program. Miami-OH has been treading water since the last couple years of the Charlie Coles era.

There was a time when Miami-OH was among the dominant all-around sports programs in the MAC. I wonder what happened there.

Ya, I guess. Just seems crazy that a school the size of Miami and with their basketball history has made the NCAA tournament only once this century. It's similar to the basketball decline at Ball State, which is also puzzling.

I am going to apply, armed with the amalgamated wisdom of the many Hall-of-Fame coaches who so generously offer their advice in this forum. If I'm hired, look for the following beginning next season:

--Cline will never start
--Multiple zone defenses (straight man is so passé), perhaps a different one every game!
--Painter will earn at least one technical foul per game
--Purdue will never miss on any recruit ever again
--Anything less than an Elite Eight appearance will result in the forfeiture of coaching staff salaries and a formal apology written with Painter's blood, offer to resign in favor of hiring coach of MAC or MVC champion
--Cuonzo on speed-dial for advice
--Convince Painter to use more synonyms of "Move!" (Will suggest Propel, Operate, Shift, Rotate, etc.) to confuse opposition
--Convince Painter to wear v-neck t-shirts when not wearing a necktie.
--Ask Bobinski to tell Nike to get us back in Old Gold or we're going to Under Armour

Wish me luck!

In all seriousness, thanks, Coach Owens! Won't be the same without him.

Best of luck to coach Owens. No idea who to replace him with, but they need to have the ability to be one of the best recruiting coaches out there. Nothing else is as important IMHO.

Go get Mike Lewis from Nebraska and turn him loose on in-state kids. I also hear Buckley is looking for a job now that Crean has left IU.

I'm pretty sure Purdue won't want an IU guy, even if Painter was an IU fan growing up (prior to signing with Purdue).

I understand your belief, but Mike Lewis was as tenacious a defender and a very good PG who converted from the State's leading scorer. I think Painter goes after whomever he considers to be the best choice.

Too bad Cardinal or Kramer don't appear to want to learn the trade.

I think Lewis is on his way to becoming a HC.

You could add "Go, Proceed, and Migrate." For the rivalry game(s), possibly "Maneuver and Deploy."

If you really want to be effective, station the newest member of the tactical team, the BoilerBot, near the corner using the terms in a random pattern.

Isn't Kenny Lowe involved with basketball operations, but not on the coaching staff. I look for him to take the spot. He was a much better defender than Lewis also. I think we're looking for a recruiter though, not someone to teach D

My God you have no idea. What our previous AD did to basketball and football was nothing short of athletic department malpractice.

This is the guy I would like to se on the staff, Greg Tonagel. Don't know if he would be interested in going from a small college head coach to a B1G assistant but it would be worth a shot. If he is interested in a P5 D1 job in the future, he is probably going to have to spend some time on a D1 staff for a while.

I was there at Market Square Arena back in 1978 when Miami (O) upset #3 Marquette in the NCAA tournament. The Miami starters were Randy Ayers, Archie Aldridge, Mike Shoemaker, Rick Goins (Rushville) , and Bill Lake (Carmel). Miami was was down 10 points with 3 minutes to go and won in overtime. Marquette had 4 starters back on a defending national championship team that included the National Player of the Year in Butch Lee. It was a big time upset in NCAA tournament play.

Randy Ayers, same guy that used to coach OSU?

I live in the Marion area, and I believe Tonagel has been offered better and higher profile jobs and he continues to stay at IWU. He's a heck of a coach who does a great recruiting job at a college most good players don't want to attend.

I just want Painter to get the best recruiter available, which probably won't be anyone that he knows all that well.

Had some cousins who went to IWU - great school.

They're building their new state of the art football stadium now. They'll start playing in '18 and have hired a coach and staff who are recruiting players now. Our HS center was going to Ind. State and just signed with IWU as a long snapper. They'll have an entire year and a half to learn the system. Natural rival for Taylor University.
