Colvin and Heide yikes

Colvin & Heide together 1 R 1A 0 pts.......and that's against Toledo.

It's beyond YIKES now.
Toledo has won the last FOUR league championships. Don't know what they lost last season but that is a solid team with good long athletes on the front line. Disappointing numbers for sure, but "against Toledo" doesn't mean what you mean it to.

I fully expect an "L" at Rutgers... as I hate playing there and I think they have at least one guy on that team in his 30s (sarcasm for those with no sarcasm detector). 4 and 1 over that stretch isn't a bad way to go though.
Always a tough out at Rutgers. Happy to get that young team on the road early and in Mackey later in the season.

Wish it were the reverse and we played there later in the year. Interested to see how we guard Harper and Bailey. Will that be Colvin and heides assignments?
You sound like me now, more concerned with experience than wins! Or is there another reason you’d rather play there later? I think Purdue will continue to improve but I don’t think there’s as much room for improvement as there is with those two young stars.

Just figured it’d help the team mentally to play them at Mackey first. But doesn’t matter now. If we can sneak a win there, I think we have a shot to get 7-8 wins in the next 10 games. Michigan and Ohio state at home will be tough, and even Northwestern—Barnhizer and Martinelli are being tabbed as best duo in the conference. They haven’t played that tough of competition, so interested to see how they do in constant conference play.

Any ways, I think we see Colvin and Heide become more consistent in hitting at least 1-2 shots a piece every night and the Frosh come along nicely. And yes, I’m being very optimistic 😂

I hope you’re right, I think we’ll find out soon. If Minnesota pushes us at the Barn that’s not a great sign and we almost have to go 4-1 or better over the next five games to be real contenders for a conference championship. Having said that, wtf knows, this team could be mediocre in January and figure it out in February and March.

Would love nothing more for the latter part of what you said to happen.

On a side note F$&!@$ the Barn! 😂

This offense is not working for Purdue, it was ok when we had Eddy in the middle and TKR is no Eddy.
If it's not working change somethings around, we have to get everyone involved in the offence.
Our 2 most athletic players stand on the side waiting to get the ball and they took 5 shots between them.
We have a few games coming up we should win and are at home so at least we can look forward to that.
If Heide or Colvin can’t get their own shot it will be a long season. Both are athletic, so they need to play for us to be really successful. No rebounds is a joke as well.

They're both athletic and can jump, neither has good enough handles to get his own shot or create problems for the defense with dribble penetration.

They both looked like deer in headlights last night on both sides of the ball.

Colvin: uh, guess I'll shoot (?)

Cam giving up baseline to Garcia was so bad, such an easy fix, one that is taught at the 2nd grade level. He was just topsy turvy on D all night, just looked perpetually confused.

an ongoing theme I'm afraid.
Maybe they can settle down now on the 2nd squad, being more of a focus on offense. ??

Completely disagree. They couldn’t shoot to save their lives but rebounded and played defense fairly well.

Your take on giving up the baseline to Garcia is right at the 2nd grade level, but the game plan all night was to hedge to the middle and bring help on the baseline. It’s possible that Cam made the wrong assumption in thinking he’d have baseline help on that play, but he played it the way they’d been playing it all night.

Agree. They shot for shit but otherwise played well.
Myles hit the left side bottom of the backboard on a wide open. Guarantee that won’t happen again. I’m sure they’re both frustrated.

We could see fletch get super amped up when heides 3 fell after hitting front of the rim. Seems the whole team is rooting for the guys to do well and they all hear the noise.

Well, when you have ppl criticizing their every move and they don’t get many opportunities to score and they are in a bit of a slump, the basket gets a bit smaller. BUT I disagree that they looked like a deer in headlights.

On cams made 3, Myles passed up his GOOD shot for a GREAT shot by Cam. I actually yelled SHOOT IT MYLES at the screen before Heide hit it.

Mid way through the first half, Heide looked to attack. And while it didn’t amount to him scoring, it makes the defense have to worry about that possibility. Myles also hit a midrange by attacking.

Cam gave up 5 inches guarding the best player on Minnesota. All things considered, he did a decent job on Garcia. That spin move didn’t make him look great, but overall, he did his job—made it difficult on Garcia.

I agree in that both are good enough shooters that I can’t imagine that they don’t work their way out of their slumps but both are really struggling. I’m not so sure that they break out of it anytime soon.

Edit: The above probably comes off more negatively than I intended. I also wouldn’t be surprised if either came out and hit 4 of 5 in the next game. Really hard to tell with shooters.

Colvin is starting to remind me of Anthony Johnson a little bit in terms of his shooting issues. AJ was a fantastic high leveler shooter/scorer in high school up in Chicago and I believe a 4-star top 75 recruit for Painter but he was never able to translate his scoring to high major college competition. His shot, while beautiful, was too slow for the athletes he faced in college and the opponent could recover too easily. Colvin's shot is beautiful but as I watched his summer highlights and early season highlights, his stroke appears to have a lot of little moving part when dialed in which leads to a slower release.

I think he is feeling that in games now where people are recovering faster to him. His mechanics are messed up and have progressively gotten worse since the Ole Miss game. You can tell his misses before the ball leave his hands due to his legs and arms being so out of synch from what his tunned in stroke looks like.

I hope he is able to find his stroke again before the end of the season and uses the offseason the find something that can work and also develop handles to get to a pull up.

Hopefully the coaches and/or his inner circle see this and let him know. I think Kyle Guy is one of his summer basketball pals. Kyle knows a little something about shooting and may be able to advise Colvin.

I hope he can develop his dribbling as well.
