East Tennessee State (featuring former "The Movement" players Hanner Perea and Peter Jurkin) faces off against UNC-Greensboro in the Southern Conference Tourney Title game tonight (7 ET on ESPN), among other games:

Could two of Crean's former players get a tourney bid this season without his guidance while IU is left out in the cold?

ETSU got the automatic bid for the Southern conference, beating UNC-Greensboro 79-74. Iona did tonight as well in the MAAC tourney title game (beat Siena 87-86 in OT) and Nebraska-Omaha trounced IUPUI (90-62) to win the Summit tourney title.

I saw the end of this game.....another lesson in it's never over.....ETSU had a 10-12 pt lead under three minutes, generally made their FT's but had a couple of lapses against pressure, panic passes.....UNCG hit a couple of threes and had a great look under 10 seconds to actually tie with a three-pointer. I think ETSU trailed most of the first half and was down 7 at the break....probably a 13, 14 or 15-seed I would guess.

The Summit isn't over yet. Tonight is the Championship game: Omaha vs South Dakota State.

The Horizon League Tourney didn't go according to Hoyle. No 1 seed Oakland and No 2 seed Valpo are both out. It is 4 seed N. Kentucky against 10 seed UW Milwaukee tonight for the championship. Rooting for the hometown Panthers. Local HS players are on that team. I don't think this knocks anyone off the bubble as I don't think Oakland or Valpo will get an at large bid.

Yeah, I just saw that. That's my mistake. I must have misread the header for that Omaha/IUPUI game summary. Omaha vs. South Dakota State is at 9 tonight on ESPN2.

Do we want Gonzaga to win? Normally I'd enjoy them losing and dropping to where I think they should properly be seeded but I don't want St. Mary's passing us up. I guess Gonzaga doesn't scare me too much as far as 1 seeds go and if we get the 4/5 seed they'd probably be the projected 1 seed I'd most like to play.

I'd say yes since Purdue (if they keep winning) is most likely going to be a #4 seed and Gonzaga is most likely going to be a #1 seed (i.e. potential of being in the same region) Plus, Swanigan and Haas match up well with Johnathan Williams, Zach Collins, and Przemek Karnowski.

When you look at the bracket matrix, there is a pretty big gap between the 4th #1 seed (Gonzaga) and the two seeds. If they lost with a decent effort tonight to St. Mary's, I wouldn't be at all surprised if they kept their place as a one, but the committee uses that championship game performance to move up St. Mary's (currently RPI 19 and a strong 6 seed now in bracket matrix) to a strong 5, even threatening any fours that bomb out early to underdogs in their tournaments. Hard to rationalize the respect they get considering it's the WCC where 40% of the conference has 200+ RPIs and another 30% are >100 (rounding SF's 99 up one to 100).

Peter Jurkin....Simply one of my favorite named IU players of all time

He still doesn't get any PT at ETSU.

"The Movement" and IU's 2012 class (other than Yogi Ferrell) was one of the most overhyped and overrated classes I can remember in the past 25 years of men's college hoops.

In other news, it looks like Northern Kentucky is going to win the Horizon's automatic bid. One of two players remaining from the NKU team that Purdue squeaked by in the '13-'14 season opener (local product Cole Murray) is going to get a taste of the Big Dance.

If you want to see a player that has a knack for the ball, watch the Summit Tourney title game (Omaha/South Dakota State) on ESPN2. Guard Tra-Deon Hollins is tied for 1st in the nation in steals per game (3.4 SPG). The WCC title game (Gonzaga/St. Mary's) is on ESPN.
