Dang Tex, we must have posted those a minute apart!
Great minds think alike. 400 wins deserves 2 threads 😀. I didn’t see a way to delete mine.Dang Tex, we must have posted those a minute apart!![]()
Ages when B1G coaches hit 400 wins at a B1G school.
Bob Knight-- age 49
Matt Painter--age 52
Tom Izzo--age 57
Gene Keady--age 60
Lou Henson--age 63
Painter has enjoyed a few advantages, to be sure. He was younger than Keady, Henson, and Izzo when he became a B1G head coach. Regular seasons are also longer now than they were during the Knight/Henson/Keady heyday.
But, Matt Painter is poised to keep rising if he keeps winning.
Congrats to Coach Paint and great job w/ the Frosh recruiting class.Bob Knight-- age 49 (FF in 2nd season; Championship 5th season; Championship 10th season; Championship 16th season; FF 21st season)
Matt Painter--age 52 (17 seasons)
Tom Izzo--age 57 (FF in 4th season; Championshp 5th; FF 6th; FF 10th: Runner up 14th; FF 15th; FF 20th; FF 24th)
Gene Keady--age 60 (27 seasons)
Lou Henson--age 63 (FF in 19th season)
I disagree with your second conclusion. Painter‘s bottom finish in 2014 was the direct result of President Cordova and her slashing of the athletic budget. That drastically affected recruiting and hence, our ability to put a competitive team on the court. We are damned lucky Painter stuck around during that mess.Another little 400 win factoid:
Matt Painter is the only 400-game winner to finish last in the B1G. And, he has accomplished that dubious distinction twice, 2006 and 2014. They are the only two times Purdue has finished last in the past half century.
The first was really a combination of the very limited roster Gene left and loss of Carl Landry and Rodney Smith for the year. The second is all on Painter and was the inglorious conclusion of the Ronnie Johnson Experience.
I don't really know how the president or her financial priorities contributed to the basketball struggles in 2013 and 2014. But, I do know that Painter had to be resilient, especially in his first ten years.I disagree with your second conclusion. You should find out before you post that it was “on Painter”. That’s all I was getting at. Cordova created a real mess in the Purdue athletic department. We bottomed out in every major sport during her reign of incompetence.I don't really know how the president or her financial priorities contributed to the basketball struggles in 2013 and 2014. This is true. Academically, Purdue was slipping as well. It's all publc record if people are interested but weren't paying attention or weren't around to watch it happen. You should find out before you post that it was “on Painter”. Interesting, I thought with the last win in Columbus we'd pulled even with them again?Had to bump this thread so you all can see these Painter stats. I believe Coach will have a winning record against every B1G team by the time he retires.
Overall even, still behind in Painter eraInteresting, I thought with the last win in Columbus we'd pulled even with them again?
ahh, thanks. Reading comprehension.Overall even, still behind in Painter era
