Cluff

He had a great game stats wise. I didn’t see the game. The game was not close. I have no idea how many of his points were scored against second and third string players or during garbage time. I believe you shouldn’t praise him too much until you see him play.

Scored 12 pts second half. Alabama was up 20 something at halftime. This was the only high D1 team SDSU played.

Only able to find video on the bama site. Cluff is slow, earth bound. Got torched on a dribble drive once, think it was Nelson. Unsure how he and TKR will coexist in the paint.

Maybe watch the film before posting an opinion? He played against Cliff O most of the game.

Cluff had a pretty good 1st half against Bama, according to espn's play-by-play log:

9 points (4/10 from the field; 1/1 at the line).

7 rebounds (4 offensive).

2 assists

1 block

No fouls

No turnovers

Cluff also had 19 points and 14 boards against Boise (#44 NET)

14 points, 14 boards against McNeese (#58)

9 point, 9 boards, 4 assists against Colorado (#86).

He had a quieter game against Nevada (#79)-- 6 points, 4 boards.

None of this is to say he's a sure thing, but he definitely didn't wilt against the best teams South Dakota St played.

But Wole didn’t see him play so he must not be that good.

Well considering the starters were in for Alabama with just under 4.5 mins to go and cluff didn’t record a single stat after the 4:48 mark….id say he played his 24 mins against the bama starters/main rotation pretty well while he recorded 21 and 15 on 9/18 shooting. But guess we gotta go watch the film.

as typical, the replies to my post were a tad one sided. hey Purvis, please tell everyone what the final score of the game was, and how Cluff kept his team within striking distance . and tell all the folks here how Alabama actually took cluff and his team really seriously. the half time score was 57-33. Alabama only had a 24 point lead despite how awesome Cluff was. Alabama was coasting in the second half. Teams have a tendency to do that when they are up by 25. they go into a little lull and prevent defense. they get sloppy. make some bad shots and passes they don't normally make. the final score was only 105-82 after your man Cluff led his team to an intense comeback. Alabama was up by 29 points at the 2 minute mark. I'm sure they were concerned. a true nail biter. as I frequently say, stats are for fantasy geeks.

he had a good game against boise st early in the year. Boise st still won. the game was tied with 1 minute left. what did Cluff do in that final minute ? Tell everybody how he led his team to victory. Ooops, you can't.

Cluff is a lot better than Berg and Furst. he may even be better than Burgess. I'm just saying, please don't make him out to be more than he is. Haas would probably be a good comparison.

Oh boy…sucks when facts get in the way, huh?

Come on, Wole. Nobody expects a team like South Dakota St to challenge Bama. Discounting Cluff's strong performance because of the lopsided margin is disingenuous. All your post really demonstrates is that Alabama was the much better team. No surprise there.

And your response to Cluff putting up 19 and 14 against another top 50 team is to throw him under the bus for not winning the game in the last minute. Seriously? You're really reaching there.

The fact is Cluff put up a double-double in 3 of the 5 games SDSU played against NET top-100 teams. He was 1 point and 1 rebound away from a fourth vs. Colorado. There's a reason why Purdue fans are generally excited about this puck-up.

Nobody's annointing him an All-American. But, let's at least acknowledge that he played well against teams that are comparable to what he'll face at Purdue.

Safe to say he'll be better than Furst and will give us an extra rim protector on D. He makes the front court rotation better and stronger and has some offensive chops, too.

I don't even think we need him to play starter's minutes (maybe 15-18 minutes to spell TKR and DJ or to go "big" against certain teams). I trust Painter's analysis more than mine (obviously), but I think he's a really significant pick up.

He will probably be at least 20 mins and maybe even 25 on some nights depending on foul situations

What purpose does it serve to think Cluff isn’t good? I think a rational person would get a little excited about those stats against any Division 1 team. Let alone multiple. There are high school players every year with 30 and 15 who people anoint as the next coming. And they’re playing against HIGH SCHOOL PLAYERS!

That's the key here.
