He's transferring from the University of Hartford. He graduated, so he will be immediately eligible. As you might expect, he did not play on a good team at Hartford BUT he put up very good numbers and played well against top-tier teams (Louisville, for example) this past season. He played his first two seasons as a reserve for New Mexico. It appears that he has improved since then. He's listed at 6'3,195 lbs. Based on his numbers, it looks like he can score in a variety of ways. Purdue still has one scholarship open (after Eifert and McKeeman were granted schollies). I think he could give Purdue another Carsen Edwards-type player (talent-wise), except with more length and experience.

Log jam at the positions he would potentially play and appears to be a high volume shooter. Two quality PG's in Thompson and Albrecht along with two players who have the ability to play the PG if needed in Carsen and Dakota. Log jam at the SG with C. Edwards, Mathias, Cline, and Vincent. He could potentially play the 3, but there is also a jam there with Vince, Cline, Mathias, and Smotherman. Not sure where he would fit in to the rotation but from the stats, he appears to be able to score..I would be worried that he appears to be a high volume shooter. In his last 17 games, he shot the ball an average of nearly 16 times per game. That is an incredible amount of shots and I'm not sure he would fit in with the offensive mentality of the team at this point. Being a graduate transfer, his ability is pretty much set and would be hard to break him of that high volume shooting.

Vince is probably going to play more 3 than 2 under Painter. Mathias and Cline are unproven defenders. One can see that Thomas averaged over a steal per game last season. That means he can at least disrupt opposing guards.

Through his first season, Cline was fairly one-dimensional (good at what he does, but that's also the one thing he does better than anything else: catch-and-shoot perimeter shots. Thomas would bring more offensive versatility (along with Carsen Edwards) to the guard position.

Nice highlights. Looks like he can play. But why would he come here? Given the significant step up in competition and the late arrival, he'd likely be no more better than our 4th or 5th option. I can't imagine a 5th year transfer who shot 407 shots last year is interested in that.

Maybe he wants to play on a winning team? Maybe his addition would make the team deeper and stronger? I don't think that would be out of the question.

There's room for him. It would just depend on the willingness of the coaching staff (can't be stuck in their ways all the time).

They are so "stuck in their ways" that they have brought in one or more grad transfers for each of the past 4 years.

Painter was quoted a couple of months ago as saying "I like our 10 (scholarship) guys", implying that he was not interested in bringing in more players, even though doing so can very much strengthen the depth of this team. I would call that being inflexible in one's mindset, regarding the scholarship situation.

You and I have VERY different definitions of inflexibility.

Saw this a few days ago on twitter or something....and I knew..without EVER hearing about this guy..that Nags would think he could help us!

It's gotten comical to me...mostly because Nags has done this for YEARS....and it's only gotten worse with more and more transfers...

Anyone got Transfers Anonymous group that Nags can join?

Anybody know the record for the most amount of transfers on a team in a single season? Me either... but if you double whatever that number is, that is Nage's annual target! :D

I'd rather NOT take him than possibly piss off some players on the team that could be offended by the lack of playing time that said player coming in could cause.
Carsen Edwards sees us bringing in a 2-guard this year, cutting into his minutes. Upset with his playing time, Edwards transfers.

Now, before you say, "It's competition. Best players are going to play." Well, yes, that is true, but I imagine the coaching staff feels pretty strongly at that position between C. Edwards, Mathias and Cline, that it can more than get the job done.

I thought Painter was going to play C. Edwards at the 1 most of the time. Did that change?

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH! Sorry, I needed to vent. It is totally out of the question. Who in their right mind is going to sign up to ride the bench for the last year of basketball they will ever play unless they have no other option?

Who says he would ride the bench? I don't think he would, if given the opportunity to play for the Boilers.

"Yes. Playing mostly the 2 this year. Comfy with PJ & Spike at PG."

(SMH) We don't even know if Albrecht will be healthy enough to be a regular rotation player in his final season: he "retired" halfway through last season at Michigan because of his hip problems!

What's the deal with Keady and Painter never wanting to have their most dynamic guards playing PG? That seems very counter-productive for the offense. Either play him at the 1 most of the time or tweak their halfcourt approach.

I don't see any relationship between my post which you quoted and 90% of your follow on comments but I'll respond the part I do recognize first. He would be coming from a very small conference as the primary shooter on a low level team and trying to adapt to a new system while playing against the best in the country (high D1) every game. His teammates (except Carsen) will have had at minimum one year in that system playing against the best. Not a likely success story for him.

On to the rest...
Albrecht: I will bow to your expert medical opinion...Spikes out. Carsen is in.
Keady/Painter not playing dynamic guards: I can't think of who you are referencing other than Bryson who was behind Sauce and then Octeus. If there are others you'll have to get specific. From the other view point who would you have played over Ricky Hall, Everette Stephens, Tony Jones, Matt Painter (this is your best shot at finding one), Matt Waddel, Kenny Lowe, Willie Dean, Baby Boiler Point (mind is blank on him). As for Bryson, he didn't play because he was not all that good. Yes he was quick and could jump. He couldn't shoot, was not particularly agile with the ball (straight line driver), and made poor decisions with the passing and shot selection.

You need to start posting on Peegs. Your love affair with lineup turnover and high flying out of cool guards aligns you better with Crean and the Loosiers. Your dislike and constant bitching about Keady and Painter is beyond getting old with most of us and all the bitching is not going to result in the change you want. Time to give it up or move along.

The coaches need to utilize their players better if they want to have more team success. Anytime it appears they are not (or are planning not to), they are fair-game for criticism. Ignore me if you want, I'm not going to stop sharing my opinions.

I'm pretty sure the willingness of the player is just as significant here.

Oh no! Now I have to keep pointing out when your opinion is wrong. My thumbs are exhausted!:D
Keep posting what you think:)

You would be happy if he said he didn't like our 10 scholarship guys? What would that imply? Would that mindset prove his flexibility to you?

Wait, did Nag post something about people ignoring his opinion? I think I must have him on ignore. Wonder if I am still on his ignore list?

You were one of the ones I remember reading on here, as I lurked on my old name, yelling at Painter to only play 10 players last preseason and did exactly what you are complaining about in regards to playing his best players.

Now you're yelling at him because he won't bring more people in just because you now have changed your mind? I am so very glad you aren't coaching anywhere. Your players would hate you.

He is the definition of a hypocrite. I don't think I have ever seen another poster critique and yell at other posters for things he is very much guilty of doing himself.

Then, only to change his mind as the narrative fits in regards to critiquing Painter. I need a flow chart to keep up with it all.

I don't understand why you act surprised by this old "news". You pretend to know obscure detail about players who are not Boilermakers, then act ignorant about things published in multiple forums about Purdue players.

It's not "old" news. It's "relevant news": Albrecht's still not 100% and we don't know if he'll ever get to 100% again (or close to it). So, knowing that there might be one less player in the regular rotation, I believe Thomas would be a good example of someone to pursue with that lone available scholarship. I think you're smart enough to understand my position here.

No, I wasn't. I'm never for a permanently reduced rotation. You're going to have to show proof or else you're mistaken (or just talking out of your backside).

Also, why are you changing handles? What's the reason for that?

Well, he committed to Western Kentucky a couple of days ago BUT his addition puts WKU over the scholarship limit by one for this season, so I'm not sure how that's going to work.
