Clements flips

well, forget the guy from Georgia, because he is said to not be very interested in recruiting. We're going to need a coach that will bring players with him.

Think Helton's really gonna cause a tsunami?
nope. I wasn't really excited about brohm either. as some have said, it could be worse. Look at who Stanford just hired. I would think stanford is an attractive football school. and that's the best they could do?

Is it just me, or is anyone else just really disliking louisville now?
Have always strongly disliked them! Two Kentucky kids flipping isn’t surprising. Definitely need to keep our in-state guys so we shall see if they stay once a decision is made on a head coach. Hagen should of been the intern head coach for the bowl game and told Brian to pack his bags!

Agree with that.

I think overall Bobinski has done a good job, but why he let Brian be the interim HC for the bowl game I don’t understand that, since we know he is leaving afterwards.

No. All this talk about Purdue having all this money now to play with, so we were going to go after someone to keep the momentum.

Going after someone from Western KY is like us trying to appease Brohm, like we did with the Danny Hope hire for Tiller.

This guy will not be bringing any big time recruits with him with his hiring, so we just lost our HC and he is cherry picking our best recruits away. I will say that h me gets more, if Helton turns out to be the hire.

It’s nice to have the money…but why pay somebody just to pay somebody?

If there were a candidate worth it, we’d pay it. There seemingly isn’t one who will come here immediately (Riley, Monken) and it’s not wise to wait a month before hiring a guy.

People whined about the Brohm hire and we were just fine. I’d rather hire a guy who philosophically is a fit and wants to be here vs another coach we have to drag here for money and is itching to leave any day for his alma mater (Leonhard)

LOL, Helton is a downgrade from where Brohm was in 2016. It's not even his offense that he won with at WKU. We just lost any and all momentum from winning the West. And we're hiring a guy that has no proven capability of recruiting at a P5 level. At least we know Shepard can recruit. I'd rather go that direction than Helton...

Secondarily, if we're burning down recruiting right now anyway, why not wait for a better coach?

Hahaha. Emotional, whiney bitches.

Every hire will be bad to you if it’s not Nick Saban. I don’t think any of the splashy hires make sense for the program. We aren’t burning down recruiting. Plenty of opportunity for the new coach to come in and keep the 14 or so we have, they guys we currently have on roster and augment with the portal.

In there lies the problem. I agree that the Wisconsin guy will probably want to go to Wisconsin, if that were to open up in the future. I get that. We would have Brohm 2.0 again. It sounds like we have a few names that we really like, but they cannot come for a month or so, which is after the first signing day.

We are in a catch 22 situation. Helton checks a lot of the boxes. He is not really our first choice, so we are settling. Again, he is not going to be bringing with him big time players in this class, if he is announced as the coach. In the future, he is not going to out recruit KY players in the state to Brohm. Stoops and Brohm will have that state locked up. If we lose Hagen, are we going to lose out on IN recruits now?

I guess we can agree that he is better than Coach Allen. I was hoping for more than that, but it looks like we don't have a choice.

The bowl game is going to be a disaster. We are losing our best recruits in the 2023 class. 2023 has a brutal schedule. We might have to rebuild again from the ground up, unless the Boilermaker Alliance starts to pay dividends.

Meh, let them go. We can replace them with the transfer portal, assuming the new coach excites recruits (i.e., isn't Helton).

Im not sure saying I'd rather wait for Monken and think we're settling for a mediocre hire in Helton is "emotional" and "whiney". I guess if I don't agree with everything you say, your only recourse is insult...

I suggest watching a UofL men’s basketball game. For anyone hating Louisville, it’s one of the funniest damned things on TV this time of year.
Yeah, why do they suck so bad now? Was it the sanctions....or just a really really bad coach?

It is. You and others have whined about us losing recruits (which happens to even the best schools in a coaching change) and getting somebody in to shore up the current class, yet want us to wait a month for Monken, Riley, etc.

I think its most important to keep the 50+ players on the team that would be willing to stay, keeping the incoming class at 10+ and then hitting the portal hard to fill our needs (which to some extent was going to have to happen anyways). If we don't hire a coach until January....that becomes a much much harder job and we potentially don't even have 85 scholie players next year if we wait. Now, I know you are looking at the future of the program beyond 1 year....but I don't think Monken is worth waiting for IMO. He's a fine choice but his results are about what Helton has achieved at a similar program and he's just flat out not a participant in recruiting at UGA.

We are about 10-15 days behind getting the candidates who would have been good fits and lined up for the job (Chadwell, Herman, etc.). It sucks but we are in the 3rd of 4th quarters in the coaching carousel and the available talent pool reflects that. Helton isn't a homerun by any means, but he's a guy who fits what we need, what we have and could likely use the players already on the roster to win 6-7 games next year and use that as a springboard to the future of the program.

We shouldn't spend money to spend money. If we find a fit that wants to be here, we should pay him the going rate. I get you are disappointed....but whats best for the team is not always what the fans see from 10,000 feet away.

The threat of sanctions definitely hurt. The new head coach completely whiffed in the portal this past summer, partly because opposing coaches were telling possible transfers that UofL would get a postseason ban.

UofL has one guard with any experience, and he’s a good player, but he’s trying to learn how to play point guard. He’s averaging 5 turnovers per game!

Kenny Payne did not have any head coaching experience, so he was not proven in that role. They also have a lot of young players that I guess have not developed yet or maybe he cannot coach them. I have no interest in watching any UL sports.

Show me where I whined about losing recruits other than Clements. If we're going to lose recruits because we're waiting for a hire and then hire Helton 5 or 6 days later, it doesn't make a lot of sense, when we could have hired Helton day one...

At this point, I'd rather wait for the right coach than hire for the sake of hiring our plan C or D.

And thirdly, what recruits or portal transfers are going to line up to play for an unknown like Helton? At least with Brohm there was a lot of buzz around the hire.

Here's what I said in the Micah Carter thread:
"Micah Carter was a KY kid. This shouldn't be surprising..." Gee that sure sounds like "whining"...

Kids looking to play in an open offense (moreso than Brohms) will line up for the opportunity. Seems like Mock and Allen will be sticking around....so theres a decent backfield to build around.

WKU has their QB in the portal as well. If he was looking to get away from Helton thats bad....but if he was looking to make a splash at a P5 school you'd have to think hes a lock to come with Helton and would be a solid bridge to Allen getting a years more experience. I don't think Alaimo sticks around, no matter who the coach is.

I think you're being whiney because you've already decided Helton is a bad hire, when he's been better than average at WKU, is described as a strong recruiter and runs an offense (or at least has stolen, than ran an offense) that most of our fans are used to seeing and would enjoy. Its not my #1 home run dream hire....but for being 10-15 days later on the carousel its a decent pick.

Got it. So it all comes down to being "whiney" because I don't like the choice? Maybe I should just get in line with your cheer team and be more of a "team player" as they say...

You for sure should. At least give the guy a chance before writing him off. That's all I will say.

When did I write him off? I don't like the choice. I think it would be a plan C or D hire.

He could be successful. It's certainly not a hire that screams Purdue has elevated its program. And there are a lot of question marks with it...

Or you could be more like me! I’m probably the most followed poster here! I even have people who block me and then argue with me!
