Some here will be happy to know that Charlie Spegal got in tonight against Idaho. Surprisingly, he didn't immediately take it to the house. I caught the last 10-11 minutes of the game - enough to see Allen still sending his guys after punts, running a hurry-up offense already up 35, and playing starters on defense with 2 minutes left in the game.

I dont know what o line IU had in there, but 47,000 plus Hoosier fans were there, most of them gone by halftime, and Purdue drew 53,000 plus for their first home game last week. That says a lot for the fan bases when you remember that Indiana has had back to back Bowl seasons and Purdue is coming off of back to back non Bowl years.

IU coming off their best season in 30+ years and supposedly even more talented this year.

The 47k is a bit misleading as it was band day. Always a nice way to inflate attendance/interest.
I’ll never understand the reluctance to actually go into the stadium. There were two groups that I knew of going over to tailgate with no intention of going inside. In fact, one group planned to watch a different game from the lot.

Any wager on whether or not, as a FR, Charlie has 275 yds and averages 3.8 ypc?

That's your comparison.

;)
Charlie is paying tuition!

-> Sampson James at Purdue this year-instate scholly, room, and board: About $25,000 for no yards.

-> Charlie Spegal so far is paying the taxpayers of Indiana about $8,000 per yard.

As a player, Charlie Spegal is a tremendous value.

Soooo.... that's a very loud and clear "NO!"

You really didn't have to try that hard. No means no.

Let’s hope not!

If he gets 275 yards, his “payment per yard” quotient will decrease dramatically to about $90 paid per yard. Don’t you think he’s a better value paying over $8,000 per yard?

Not sure why you're stuck on this "value". Every recruit comes with some uncertainty as performance.

You comparing an un-recruited walk on to a highly recruited player reeks as if you're scared as h3ll that James will be cleared, and demonstrate the incompetence of Coach LEO.

Only time will tell.

Your best bet is to get nothing for paying nothing. That's the sordid history of Indinia football in a nutshell, and why it's historically the worst program in CFB.

It’s a joke, my friend. I don’t come over here to troll or pick fights, just to have fun.

James and IU were not working out, but he’s a good kid and a legit P5 talent. He was lacking in on-field decision making, but if experience adds game savvy I expect he will get productive carries at Purdue.

No, I get it. It's all good. Just banter.

I have ZERO interest in NFL anymore, and my "honey-do" list is on hold while the wife is away...!

I feel bad for James. Carr got immediate clearance to play for MSU. The guy who went to OSU got immediate clearance. But because he chose Purdue, James has to wait. The same was true for the TE that went to Illinois and the QB that went to Northwestern. It seems like a double standard.

The rules are different now than previous. You get 1 free transfer. Carr didn’t get a waiver.
James has to sit out because he transferred after the July 1st deadline. There isn’t some axe to grind vs Purdue here.

Speaking of Carr, I see he's listed as a TE. Up to 245lbs as well. 1 catch for 8 yards thus far on the season.

It was really a bad move on his part. He's not going to get many touches at MSU as they're going to run, run, and run some more. It likely killed his pro chances...

Wasn't he the player who came to Purdue in part because they were the only school giving him a shot at WR?
Now you're just bringing up facts that Carr doesn't want to hear. I mean, really, he just wants to play the roundball now. Don't remind him about what he actually said. I'm guessing by end of season, he'll be ready to transfer somewhere he can play WR again...

Carr transferred well within the July 1st deadline and any and all grad transfers are getting immediate eligibility. If James had declared his intent to transfer before the July 1st deadline instead of a week into training camp (and 3 weeks before the first game) he's more than likely eligible to play this year.

And here’s the truth about a lot of pre grad transfers. The one time rule just isn’t going to satisfy them. Because the reasons for transferring are typically going to follow them from one school to the next. The only difference in his situation now at MSU and his situation at Purdue is he has run out of options. Just another suitor telling him what he wants to hear, before the reality of the situation sets in.

I believe the intent was somewhat noble, in giving players the option of transferring if the recruiting coach(es) leave the program.

However, as is true most of the time, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions", and this is no exception.
