CFP expansion

IMO this is a good thing but I’m afraid it’ll never be enough for teams left out
Just like March Madness, there are going to be the debates of the final 4 to 5 that made the cut, and the 4 to 5 that got snubbed.

It will keep people like Stephen A. in business I guess.

Obviously this is all about money.

But from a competitive standpoint, when was the last time a team with a legitimate claim at being the best team didn’t get a chance to play for the title? 2004 Auburn?

They are going to milk the playoff until the regular season is meaningless and people just wait and tune in in December, just like March madness.

Having a bye week is too much of an advantage for the top four seeds. Football takes a great physical toll on athletes.

Imo, to give teams that dont belong in a playoff such a disadvatage is a crime. There are only about 6 teams, at most, that would have any sort of claim to a championship tournament. Its not basketball or baseball.

There is no way a ninth through twelfth will win the national championship. With all the bowls already the money is already there. This makes no sense to me aside from making some school feel good. Basketball is to watered down and now the same for football.

TCU was worked over the first year of the playoff, IMO, when Ohio State jumped them for the #4 spot (and ended up winning - so most justified the slight), but that was a 4/5 fight. Going back to the BCS days otherwise I guess. However, at least there was more objectivity and a formula factored in and not a subjective committee vote making the ultimate call - with criteria that changes from year-to-year. I'd have had less of an issue when they expanded to four to keep the BCS rankings model (or something similar), but you can't do that with the Power Five cartel wanting to control it. Or the plus one model is even better than now.

Going to six with two byes for the top two I could see - going to 12 is the predictable cash grab.

Now.......kindly step off my lawn.

Nice now instead of 1 or 2 blowouts in the playoff we are guaranteed 5 or 6. Should be fun to watch...

It’s fine. The top 5 programs are still at a massive advantage. The Central Florida or whatever team that is having a special season should have a chance at least.

I think Purdue would have to win the west (if they still do divisions). Probably a 10-2 record gets them in the conversation. IU, Minnesota and Northwestern (during their relative good seasons) would probably make the playoffs in this scenario. Purdue needs to get its shit together.

Wouldn't you rather a 10-2 Purdue team a chance to win the Rose Bowl rather than end the season with a 50 pt loss to Alabama?
