CB Brown is an experienced CB coming here from Nevada. He actually was a starter and has some experience. He looks like he will be a nice addition.

I like that this coach is stocking up with depth at guys capable of starting instead of spending big on one year sure fire starters. Let them compete in the spring. As for brown, right now he’s probably not a starter in our depth chart but will certainly have a chance to get there and contribute. I think Breedlove, Grimes, and Smiley Bradford are your current starters. They have starting experience as well. but expect Brown, Turner, and Hines will have a chance to change that.

Also some may switch to safety, and some safeties may have a chance to play LB. We had guys out of position last year for sure and while I expect we will have 4+ at LB to be very good at essentially 2 positions we don’t have as much depth there.

At free safety look for Ty Hudkins and Luke Williams to duke it out along with portal transfer, maybe someone like toney or wakely slides over. I also think this is where Bradford can do well if needed.

At strong safety, we have some depth with Tahj Ra-El, Crew Wakely, and Richard Toney to compete. Good options there.

Bottom line is we now have 11 DBs capable of starting. Maybe more.

I like the fact the coach is addressing every position rather than stockpiling at one specific position!

That’s not even true. Hes stockpiling at QB (3) DB (6), and WR (5). I do think he’s trying to get more DL too. Ironically those are the same positions you have been critical of past coaches.

You always portray you holier than though attitude that you know more than the coaches. We have a OC and Oline coach that were oLine specialists and really good and we lost all 5 starters and don’t have much depth. Yet we didn’t recruit the portal for Oline hard. Even the OC from UNLV Hasz didn’t list Purdue among the schools recruiting him hard.
The reality is the portal isn’t a litmus test about prioritizing position groups. It’s just a resource to build a team. With OLine I suspect the development of talented OLine is more important than the portal. Obviously we did get the sure thing in Chop St John at LT, but instead of going after a solid one year rental like Hasz was not in the plan. He’d rather develop Purvis and Vicari who have very little experience. And the talent we have here in Ball, Trent, Tanona, Sales, Liston, and Coly. Hopefully Gorin. Maybe can turn Randle, Green, Parrott, and Bouldin into good OL. Vacarro is the wild card.
