Castleton to Michigan

Well, we could have signed him but chose Dow instead! It will be worth noting and watching! I believe Dow was the better fit. Maybe less talented, but a better fit!

I'll take the higher ceiling in Dowonua, than the higher floor from Castleton. Both these players wouldn't have played that much next year with good depth, so I'll a better future potential player.

I believe somebody above nailed it! I believe Castleton has the higher floor and is ranked higher now! But I believe ED has the ceiling and in 2-3 years will be the better player! I also believe ED will be the better defender and the better fit! I can see Castleton scoring 15-20ppg, but I can see ED protecting the lane and helping us win! We don't need 5 offensive minded players.

Anyone not as worried about defending players like Castleton now that we have Wheeler. I feel like he is tall, long and athletic enough to defend those guys.

Michigan has a log jam many players like him on there roster we'll see if he even plays next year at all bcuz he rather thin and he will need to add weight to compete with more stronger athletic forwards I'll take Dow bcuz he has all the athletic tools and once he adds the offense to his game that kid will be a problem.

This kid will be good.....would have excelled in our offense and will excel @ Michigan.

CMP can't take them all, and apparently has the player he wanted @ that position. Hope it works out the way CMP believes it will....he has a high probability of being correct on players lately.

Yes. Haarms, Wheeler, Taylor, and Ewing should all be better options than Swanigan and Haas against stretch 5's the next few years.

I feel that I keep harping on this, because the board really believes a version of this and the version is using the above, but replacing and with or. Against Michigan, in the 1st half, Wagner popped out and hit a couple of 3's against Swanigan, because Swannigan delated popping out as he had to protect the rim. In the 2nd half, Wagner drove unopposed to the rim and Haas came from weak side to block the shot.

The other game, the other Michigan big man hit a couple of 3's against Haas. In the second half, when Haas came out the big man drove and Swannigan picked his pocket.

In the WUG game we lost, the op pulled Haas from the basket on D. Taylor was the only other big man, but he played only the 5. IMO the above 4 can all play the 4 with Haas and Haas can pop out and curtail any stretch 5. Haas is more mobile than the board thinks and should be fined tuned playing the above 4 in practice.

May I also add that Wagner got in foul trouble guarding Haas? BTW, I also love Vince, but I think he is more valuable at the 3 (and will destroy Michigan's 3 pt shooting SF).

With Dow's soft touch, defensive commitment, and athleticism, he reminds me a little of JJ. I wonder if MP told him that too.

Comparison to Castleton aside, you have to admit that Dow is the more interesting of the 2. I am really looking forward to watching his development over his Purdue career.

Agreed. I also think Nojel will give us more defensive versatility. He's a strong kid, which can negate slight height differences.
That guy will be able to go from point to 4, on both sides of the ball, and Matt can really drive matchups with that.

Well Michigan and Purdue both got their guy we will see in 4 years who turns out to be better. Right now in my opinion Castleton is better hopefully that changes

I just know what my cousin said and what the tapes of him playing shows. My cousin said if he gains 20 to 30 pounds he is going to be a tough matchup

Samcboier first of all I was not bitching I've stated I like this kid long before we signed Dow. Was not complaining that we signed Dow. But sorry for having my own opinion forgot we don't live in America we live in North Korea we're only one opinion counts. How about you go away not everybody's going to have the same opinion or will everybody agree with each other. Now my post above not one time did I talk bad about painter are the recruit he signed.

I was just stating my cousin said he was very good player not one time did I say Matt Painter should listen to my cousin. I wanted this kid we didn't get him no big deal. Calm down bro didn't say anything bad about Matt Painter or any player.

I think he wanted them equally. If Castleton had committed first he would have been as happy as he is now.
Maybe. But I think there's a complicated ballet that occurs in recruiting and I doubt the coaches that do it well rarely play it wrong. I agree with you that Castleton looked liked a potential player but Painter refused to wait on him getting on campus and I think that means something.

Going to visit ED a few days before the other guys' planned visits seems like giving ED the right of first refusal. It seems to indicate Painter wanted him at least as much as the other guys if not more. It also seems some posters think it was a foregone conclusion that Castleton would have committed to Purdue, and I think that is a pretty big assumption to make.

What do you base that on?
The fact that he offered him? You think if Castleton committed first he wouldn't have backed off Dow? Now before the board police show up, I think Painter is very happy with Dow. I just think he would have been just as happy with Castleton.

If you are talking about me, I certainly did not expect Castleton to commit to Purdue. I thought he was signed, sealed, and delivered to Florida. Obviously that wasn't the case.

Well with both offers on the table...CMP clearly went hard after Dow... So to me that shows CMP's preference. Hope it works out for him. Usually does.

Painter was recruiting both players. The 1st to commit got the spot. Painter very much wanted Castleton.
But he clearly wanted Dow more, which is why he told him that if Castleton committed, the offer was gone. If he wanted Castleton more, the offer would have remained open after Dow committed.

You have to believe Painter wanted both players. But he contacted Dow before Castleton arrived for his visit! He basically told him if he didn't commit, he would give Castleton the job! The fact he contacted Dow and gave him basically an ultimatum states fairly clearly Painter wanted Dow over Castleton! Dow didn't just coincidently commit on that night! He had to have been in contact with Painter who spelled it out for him! It's obvious to me Painter would have been happy with either player, but he wanted Dow more.

I will thank him when I see how dow develops into a player. I don't get how some people on here thing Dow has the higher ceiling. I think both players have unlimited potential

People are limited to their physical capabilities, and height. Dow is ranked pretty similar, but has been playing the game 1/3 the amount of time castleton had been. So in terms of potential you have it right there. He also has a more athletic upside, and seems hungry to improve his game, very coachable, and a team player.
