Carr down to Purdue and Georgia

Won’t be good enough to play. Won’t like riding the pine. Pass

And you've:
1). Seen Carr play basketball?
2). Know he's not good enough?
3). Gotten the word from Painter he won't play?
4). You've spoken to him, so you know he won't like riding the bench?

I'm assuming you have all of these questions nailed down and that's why you're recommending Purdue passes on him. Nice work...

Is Carr good at basketball? I can't find his basketball recruiting profile.

Do you think he could get a D1 basketball scholarship without playing football?

Would he actually contribute to Purdue's basketball team?

Surely you’re a paying member & have read what Brian has to say about this, right..?

True but for what he lacked in coaching , he was a good recruiter at Loosierville. I can picture him saying sweet nothings in Maliq’s ear and telling him he’s been thinking about him a lot lately
True, as well, but in Gloomington he was recruiting to (thankfully) a former mega-program with a still-obvious media presence.

In Athens, what are the "sweet nothings" about that would be headed for Carr's ear ?? How he can help turn around a program that is dwarfed by Ga. football, in front of 8,200 fans, and trying to stay out of last place ?? Need THAT on tape......

Well I’m sure one thing would be that he would have a better opportunity of playing time there. Plus, like it or not, Crean is a high energy and charismatic person and I could be wrong but I think he’s landed some good talent with latest class. Now he can’t coach and claps a lot but I’m sure the opportunity to play would be appealing

He’s so good that Michigan, Auburn, and Miami’s basketball programs looked at him and said ummmmm NOPE. Like I said, Pass. Sure seems like Painter is being strong armed here.

Okay, I finally found something.
On verbal commits he's listed as a 2-star with offers from:
Robert Morris
Oakland
LIU
Western Michigan
Cleveland State

There is no way anyone is “strong arming” Painter. He’s in about as strong of a position that you can get. With that said, both coaches seem to be supporting each other’s program quite well so I can see Painter giving his blessing. For Matt, it is nothing more than having another walk on and I’m sure he would not tolerate any locker room issues nor would Brohm expect him to.

Here's how I see it re Carr and Painter:

1. If Carr comes to Purdue to play football and Painter agrees to look at him as a walk-on, Carr gets his opportunity to double-sport and Painter gets a walk-on body.
2. If Carr turns out OK, then both win-even better.
3. If it does not work out in BB but does in FB, then Carr is a winner. If he has a great career he could possibly play pro ball as a receiver.
4. If he gets to try out for both, Purdue is perceived as going the extra mile for a recruit in a "legal" way. Purdue keeps its word and that builds credibility.
5. If Carr is not happy at BB, at least he knows that he was treated fairly.
6. After l'affaire frere and pere Johnson, I do not believe for one minute that CMP will let anyone mess with his team's chemistry. He learned that lesson.

If Carr were primarily a basketball recruit envisioning playing time opportunities, I could see your point. But for a football player not joining his b-ball team until the 1st of the year, how important would that be ?? Answer: not all that important.

Crean a charismatic person??

Why don't we survey the top 50 high school basketball coaches in the state of Indiana to get Clappy McTanperson's charisma evaluation ??

Wow thats a hot take.

You actually think the coach that just won his second conference title in 3 years and made it to the elite 8 is being strong armed? Gtfo

I wonder if Carr and Trevion are friends? The both played on the same AAU team, The Family.

MAC level who will think he is a star. Bad Apple will ruin both teams. Best case scenario, he picks Georgia.

Could also be why he is a lower rated BB player, only joining the team after his football team’s season is completed plus how much time during the summer was he able to dedicate to BB vs FB. As a previous poster listed, it is a win, win for both the player and Purdue’s BB team as on a FB scholarship he would not count against the BB number. If he can avoid an injury and make it through one season of both it should be clear to Carr which way would be best for him and Purdue!

Our starting HS QB was a legitimate D1 Point Guard and our best BB player but since he annually played FB deep into December as a D1 FB prospect in the State tournament he also played three varsity years as our Point Guard on some real good BB teams starting in January but finally made the choice as a HS Senior to only play Football his Senior year to prepare for the next level and today is the returning starting QB for the Houston Cougars!

Again, I don't get how he's going to be a bad apple? For BB, we get a 2 star walk on that gets us a 4 star football player. No offense to Tommy Luce, but he's a MAJOR upgrade as a walk on in comparison.

Being a 2 star BB recruit, he would probably already know he's not going to be the star of Purdue BB. And he does become a major contributor, even better.

Strong armed to what? Get a MAC level walk on and not use one of his scholarships?

Your opinion or facts on a bad apple. Have you regularly watched him play both? Does he focus on one or both during the summer months playing 7 on 7 and for an AAU BB team? When does he join his HS BB team each school year, Nov, Dec, or January? A lot of unknowns to form an opinion without knowing all the answers, imo!

Ask Anthony Edwards (#1 recruit in 2019 class) if Crean has charisma

Edwards' opinion doesn't change the fact that Carr's dream is the NFL.....not how much fun being a walk-on borderline rotation player in one's #2 sport might pan out......
