Camden heide to transfer portal

I get that. It’s fun watching good kids develop over 3-4 years.

For example: I can’t name 5 Purdue football players right now. I’m not sure if I’ll be following much longer if the whole team turns over every year.
I’ve always enjoyed watching the growth of players. I don’t watch the NBA. Matt has taken a single transfer several times and has a single this year. However. With so many in the portal, Matt may take another player which is still less than some schools

A huge hit??? They were the inconsistent links of the chain to this year's team. Everyone talked about Purdue's big three this year but the fact is that players 4 through 7, not counting the freshman, didn't consistently show up....
Those guys did come to play in the NCAA Tournament. If nothing else, that was worthwhile.

I am not going to sugar coat this... but this makes being a fan harder and harder. I am disappointed in Cam as I thought he was more about team than just himself, but I guess I was wrong. Playing for a team that is a National Championship contender I guess wasn't important enough. I wish there was a rule that every player had to declare their intention at the beginning of the portal window opening, that way you would at least know which players are staying and wouldn't have to hold your breath waiting for some terrible news that the player you never thought would leave is actually leaving. I am for players getting what is due to them but somehow some way imo rules need to be tweaked to save college sports. If it is even possible. Having a completely new team come in each year that is going to play with a Purdue jersey on but has limited actual connection to the Purdue legacy and community because they will be changing teams in another year is a joke. Eventually invested fans will become less invested and college sports will forever be ruined.

You say you are for players getting what is due to them...so what if good teams tell Colvin and Heide, we will give you a starting spot and more money, should they say yes or no?

Did we all freak out the last time we had multiple transfers?? Isiah and Eric in 22-23? No. And that was before all NIL and Portal - where not for, I doubt anyone but save Colvin leaves. Relax.

Depends on your conscience. If CMP and PU gave you a shot, and you got all butt hurt because you didn't work hard enough to crack the line up more and got little PT, then that's your problem and you should own it and not run home to mommy and daddy.

Just like if I let someone piss me off, that's not their issue. It's mine.

And by leaving, they've stated their conscience. I hope they didn't let the door hit 'em in the backside on their rapid way out.

Butt hurt. It's amazing say Painter is anything less than perfection and people get "butt hurt" but go after the players and everyone nods their heads.

How do you know how hard they worked? How do you know they weren't simply a fit here? If Painter isn't out there attacking them why are you? It was pretty clear they weren't likely to start next season and it was pretty clear that their talents work better on a fast break high rep team, not on the slow it down, big man centric style we play now.

Not wanting to once again be role players in a system they weren't suited to maximize their ability doesn't make them either butt hurt nor lazy.

These guys are now professional athletes. They should be made employees of the school, and sign binding contracts, like all the other professional athletes in the world do.

Been saying that for sometime. If the school has the right to pay them as a student/professional they need to sign policy agreements set by the school.

Get off your high horse !! How many jobs have you had and the reason for leaving. Most leave because of opportunity or pay ! Cam wasn’t getting the playing time or starter status and will probably make more at next school. While I agree it’s harder to connect when players come and go they have every right o go

This made me think (Thank you)
I left 3 jobs to be more independent (outside sales) and a higher ceiling
I left 2 job due to insufferable management (coaching)
I left 1 job for WAY more money

Not entirely true. If everyone just did what they wanted, when they wanted, to whomever they wanted for any reason there would be absolutely no order in the world.

Getting "your due" is certainly part of the equation, but so is loyalty and seeking the greater good for others. The problem with college sports is quickly becoming apparent...lots of change with absolutely no regulation.

Ultimately, the solution will eventually converge on something that looks like the NBA. Namely, guaranteed contracts, collective bargaining, regulated number of in-season and out-of-season trades and so forth.

Look man this is entertainment now. If we aren't being entertained there won't be any bags. The fans can easily crush this if we want to. I put the JPC money up, I bought the Cam tshirt, I bought the Maui Edey jersey, I watch the games. If enough people like me check out, then what? I love basketball, I teach it, and I support Purdue as an alum, but if this just becomes nba lite...why would I care? I don't watch the G league either. I can easily ignore this.

Have you ever chosen to stay in a job—not because of a bigger paycheck or personal gain—but because of something deeper, like:

A genuine respect and appreciation for your teammates or coworkers?
Loyalty to a company that has shown you the same in return?
The opportunity to prioritize your family, even if it meant passing up a higher salary?

Wouldn't you agree that it possible that sometimes, the "less selfish" choice is actually the better one?

I'm not challenging your individual choices here, mind you. Just trying to look at this from another perspective.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

There will be some (many? most?) fans who stick around because they are fine with the professional model. They have their fav pro teams, and stick by their team even when the roster turnover has them rooting for different guys every year. But this isn't me.

There used to be a differentiation between pro and college sports that is now being blurred. I don't follow pro sports anymore, and never will. Just can't stomach it.

I always made my choices on company culture - more upper management than co-workers. Other than the massive more pay offer, and I was in an OK culture at the time

I'm one that will "stick around" simply because it's Purdue sports.. not going to jump ship now just because I hate what it has become.. but.. I'll put less "emotion" lets say in to winning or losing.. sort of a "meh" either way and I am kind of there already... we got our FF and while a NT would be nice.. going forward it almost has less meaning if that makes sense.

Quit feeling sorry for yourself. These kids are only taking advantage of a system that is now set up for them to do so. Don't blame them, blame the NCAA.
Winning will quickly forget who is on the team one year to the next and if Purdue gets to the FF or NC next year with 3 new 1 year starters, I'm all for it.

I think Cam probably earned himself a nice paycheck with his play during the tourney alone.

Well, it is a personal decision for them, but team should still matter and if they put in the work there is no reason to believe that Colvin and Heide wouldn't be getting starter minutes next year. I am a firm believer in finishing what you started but that work ethic seems to be fading. Looking at the damage so far, I can see why Berg and Waddell decided to enter the portal. I mean it is unlikely either one would have cracked the starting line up although they are both good players. For instance, if Waddell transferred to Northwestern let's say - I think he would get a lot of playing time. Idk, between sh*tty refs during the tournament and losing players left and right to the portal I am losing interest fast! Why put yourself through that just to be disappointed every year. I mean currently we still have a good core set of guys, and I will still be invested and still watching but if it gets much worse, then I am done.

1000% correct.

Managing an office of young employees is tough at times. Even if given every opportunity for flexibility that helps fit their lifestyle. They still will want more.....it's human nature.

I come from a generation of loyalty means something and most likely you'll benefit from that loyalty. It's just like marriage, be loyal, be true to yourself and you'll have a life long best friend.

You seem depressed. Perhaps step away from the computer and go for a walk outside.
This whole concept of team loyalty, culture, chemistry, etc. is pretty much a myth and non-existent. Yes, for us old timers, it's a big change and not easy to adjust to, but it's not going anywhere. Players have different motivations for either staying or leaving and only they, their family and agent knows what those are.

To each his own, but if it is not fun to watch I am out. Just as a hypothetical if Smith, TKR and Loyer transferred this year I would not be watching the team next year. Might as well just watch the NBA at that point which I will never do. Cam can do whatever he wants, I don't suddenly dislike him but that doesn't mean I have to agree with his decision. It is hard to be invested when loyalty means nothing.

You bring up loyalty....As a fan, are you loyal to the name on the front of the jersey or the back? To mean, you support whoever wears the jersey, regardless of how they got here.
Are you mad that Cluff is on his 3rd school? Is he disloyal or will you cheer for him just as hard ?

That is funny - you are pretty perceptive - I have been going through some serious health issues (hopefully all fixable) - so probably a little depressed! Might go for that walk. Lol!

Do you believe your statement sounds hypocritical?

So, you want 'your' players at Purdue, but you also want to leave Purdue because 'your' players left....got it.

There's every reason to believe they wouldn't get starter minutes next season. Cox, Harris, Cluff, Benter, Loyer, Smith, TKR, DJ, Burgess and almost assuredly even before they left another wing was probably coming from the portal.

Your starting lineup was going to be someone not them at the 5, TKR and Cluff getting almost 40 minutes at the 4, Smith getting near 40 at the 1, Loyer getting 30+ at the 2 and Cox getting at least 20+ spread in there.

What's left for one of them not to mention both of them each getting at least 20 a game? I haven't even listed incoming players or Harris yet.

I'm sorry but a lot of this is sanctimonious.
