Agree, but CMP didn't see it or he would have played. Nothing against him, but we'll get someone that will fit what CMP wants or this team needs. IMOWell the 2 guys ahead of him are gone now.

If you don’t think CH and MC were given every opportunity to claim maximum starter minutes, and to showcase their talents this past season, then I don’t know what to tell you….Why is the first reaction always “money talks”? There is no indication that any of these guys are just chasing a bag. None of our portal entrants were starters. How about “playing time talks” or “being a starter talks”? Guys want to go where they can get minutes to showcase their talents. No one is poaching any of our current portal guys away from Purdue for a huge sum of money.
Purdue got beat by Houston because they had more and better athletes on the floor. I don't remember how many offensive rebounds we gave up but it was a ton and the second chance points killed us.I don’t know that Purdue needs players who can jump out of the gym as much as players who have functional quickness. Smith, Cox, and Harris have what I am talking about. Loyer doesn’t, but you can hide one guy with his level of skill. I think Painter will bring in another wing with some good lateral quickness and Purdue will be fine.
Great point !!!Why is the first reaction always “money talks”? There is no indication that any of these guys are just chasing a bag. None of our portal entrants were starters. Completely agree. Damn.Man, that one just stings. Just not enough minutes and he wasn't going to be starting... but a huge loss.
Wow 3 in how many years?Idk.. Painter let Etwaun, Carsen and Jaden cook…
What's fun for the player is not the same as what's fun for the viewer. To be fair— that is only slightly less fun than repeatedly clanking WIDE OPEN threes for much of the season.
The “post guy” consistently drew fouls and delivered points- from what I observed this year…
IMO Players will have sets run for them- once they demonstrate they can consistently do something positive with the ball in their hands!
The money draw is huge!!!!! Can't blame them at all, but this no longer represents a student athlete or that academics carry much weight. Now Purdue I believe will go after player that can play the three and/or four splitting some minutes in each, but can see a 2 or 3 as well...but mostly 3 type skills. All the development and planning around building a "team" shot within seconds...I think we can safely say now that the "PU culture" doesn't count as much as we may have hoped.....Just the way of the sport now.
Really!!?? I'm not sure this is 100% factual. We had every opportunity to beat them besides the crucial 5 point swing on bad calls. We played them neck-and-neck.Purdue got beat by Houston because they had more and better athletes on the floor. I don't remember how many offensive rebounds we gave up but it was a ton and the second chance points killed us.
That was because they had athletes who could keep the ball alive and were just quicker to the ball.
it may be "obvious" to you , but do you really think Matt sees it "obvious" and resists the obvious to not be as good as possible? No, right or wrong Matt has too much invested to not do what he believes is obvious. He just has different priorities relative to his beliefs than some.Stubborn might be the wrong word, I agree. Maybe more like "resistant to change until it becomes obvious it's a neccessity"
Yep time to get off the high horses and pedastals and realize we have to play the game, which I think Painter is clearly doing.I think we can safely say now that the "PU culture" doesn't count as much as we may have hoped.....Just the way of the sport now.
I mean... that's stubborn lolStubborn might be the wrong word, I agree. Maybe more like "resistant to change until it becomes obvious it's a neccessity"
Purdue's offense isn't an ideal fit for Heide. Same with Colvin. It's nobody's fault, it happens.Doesn't make sense to me.
I'm not going to say the almighty dollar isn't at play here, of course it is. But playing time is also at play. Both Cam and Myles were going to be juniors and neither one was looking at a starting spot. That is a recipe for transfer. Will it lead to more money? None of us know that, but I would be willing to bet that where both of them go, they will be playing more minutes than they did at PU.The money draw is huge!!!!! And Braden, obviously.Wow 3 in how many years?
Cam had a seriously streaky year from 3. He was on fire for much of November. Then he went through a protracted dry spell in December and January. But, Cam actually shot 14/22 (64%) from 3 over the last ten games. To be fair— that is only slightly less fun than repeatedly clanking WIDE OPEN threes for much of the season.

Or maybe, like every other human on the planet, Matt has blindspots or weak points or areas of resistance?it may be "obvious" to you , but do you really think Matt sees it "obvious" and resists the obvious to not be as good as possible? No, right or wrong Matt has too much invested to not do what he believes is obvious. He just has different priorities relative to his beliefs than some.
Never!!!!!! 😂 😂Or maybe, like every other human on the planet, Matt has blindspots or weak points or areas of resistance?
Disagree. We lost because we missed a bunch of open looks, and because our starting center missed the whole season.Purdue got beat by Houston because they had more and better athletes on the floor
They started and failed pretty badly at it. They went back to the bench and had a few moments but nothing that suggested that in the roles they were likely to have next season in the system they were in that they were going to do any better.I'm not going to say the almighty dollar isn't at play here, of course it is. But playing time is also at play. Both Cam and Myles were going to be juniors and neither one was looking at a starting spot. That is a recipe for transfer. Will it lead to more money? As far as academics, if the player so chooses, there is no reason they can't get a good degree at whatever school they transfer to. If they aren't interested in that, then fine, but transferring doesn't automatically mean a degree isn't important to them.
I'm not crazy about this new "system" we have. I'm just not willing to assign motive to people I don't know. I would venture to guess we would have seen transfers like this under the old system "no NIL" if they wouldn't have been required to sit out a year. In other words, I don't think it's just the dollars that is driving the transfers.
I've been saying this for a while and people get their panties all in a twist about it.Yep time to get off the high horses and pedastals and realize we have to play the game, which I think Painter is clearly doing.
I said a few weeks ago we weren’t gonna have the money to keep everyone. Painter was aware of this reality also.Yep time to get off the high horses and pedastals and realize we have to play the game, which I think Painter is clearly doing.
Heide and Colvin aren't about money. They want to start, plain and simple and that was never going to happen here.I said a few weeks ago we weren’t gonna have the money to keep everyone. Painter was aware of this reality also.
I totally acknowledge that CMP’s way is not the only way to success, but it’s incredibly tough to find fault with who he’s given (and who he HAS’NT given) free rein within the offense over the years…What's fun for the player is not the same as what's fun for the viewer.
Why does everything around here have to be a f^#&$ing "set" run? Not looking for streetball but let guys play a little.
Disagree. Money is part of it.Heide and Colvin aren't about money. They want to start, plain and simple and that was never going to happen here.
Sincere question: why would you want an unproven player like Catchings? Just because he has a physical upside or for some other reason? I'd go out and get a 23 year old.Roster has taken a huge hit with the departure of both Colvin and Heidi…hello Catchings. Playing time is now available for Catchings. So much for FF4 contender…too much lost…no bench strength now. Looking for a new interest during winter…College sports suck big-time!
I doubt it. What have either done to earn so much from another program that we couldn't match it?Disagree. Money is part of it.
Dont disagree with thatAnd Braden, obviously.
Point is, if you’re a dude, he lets you play. Colvin and Heide ain’t dudes. They are clearly complimentary pieces.
They could start for lots of P5 programs, most of whom have new revenue sharing money to spend, on top of NIL.I doubt it. What have either done to earn so much from another program that we couldn't match it?
Could they? I don't think we know that. Certainly they can start for some, but there are 20 Heides and 20 Colvins out there in the portal right now. Every season. They could start for lots of P5 programs, most of whom have new revenue sharing money to spend, on top of NIL.
It’s like Georgia losing backups to schools like Purdue in football. They have to spend most of their money on their starters., so they lose the Nyland Greens of the world… I guess it’s a good problem to have…
I'm sure it is dollars today...potential dollars tomorrow...playing time as well. The stance of making the money and gettng a degree later has always been in play for those that went pro early. I just don't think if money was NOT involved that we would be seeing Cam and/or Myles leaving. There has always been players not getting the minutes they wanted and yet they stayed, but there wasn't the huge sums of money. I imagine if Cam got a million or so to stay at Purdue he would be there. These kids are making more in a year than many pro basketball players years ago with inflation adjusted I expect. It is what it is and Purdue lost some good guys. I understand Brian and Berg moving on for playing time and any money along the way...and yes NOT sitting out is huge in this.I'm not going to say the almighty dollar isn't at play here, of course it is. But playing time is also at play. Both Cam and Myles were going to be juniors and neither one was looking at a starting spot. That is a recipe for transfer. Will it lead to more money?
