California now out? Interesting

I'd personally be shocked if he picks Kentucky . They don't need money and hd has constantly said playing time ...... Which will be no guarantee there

Given Calipari's track record as a recruiter, I wouldn't dismiss a Kentucky push easily.

On the other hand, it seems to me that Swanigan fits Purdue's offense better than UK's. Painter has a track record of running the offense through the 4 position and has his best success when he's played a skilled player at the 4. Swanigan is, from what I understand, a high skilled passer with great court vision. I really think that Painter will build his offense around Swanigan if he has the opportunity (not exclusively, but to a large degree). It's far less likely that Calipari will do the same, given the chance.

We all know what that means

If he choses Kentucky there are consequences. If he choses Purdue he made the right choice. Kentucky would be a short sighted decision. Purdue would be the big picture. On one hand Kentucky picked up the number 1 forward in America. Someone bigger, faster, and more athletic. This is going to be the reality at Kentucky every year. You can't go NBA competing against these guys in one year no matter what Kentucky promises or how much money they toss in the bag. It won't happen when you got the number 1 guy coming in there year after year. Too much time share involved there. Plus look at next year's recruiting. The top 4 forwards in America have Kentucky high on their lists. Harry Giles 6ft 10, Edrice Adebayo 6ft 9, and Jayson Tatum all ranked in the top 10. It is ultra competitive just to get playing time. Career wouldn't develop like it would at Purdue because here he can focus less on that kind of stuff and more on learning basketball and working with the team. Purdue gives him the chance to fully develop into the player he wants to be. And if he chooses Purdue they will be a very good team next year and the year after, and the year after. He looses nothing going to Purdue. He looses playing time at Kentucky.

He'll walk into the NBA going to Purdue because with his skill set Painter can develop it precisely as the NBA scouts desire for his natural ability. NBA scouts go to Kentucky for a different type of player with a different skill set. Skal Labissiere (6ft11 220 pounds) for example. He'd get the complete package here. Kentucky would go for him as a backup center, or in a backup role at forward. Purdue would put him at 4 as the starter, as the king, as the main man. Skal is much quicker and more athletic; an extremely good shooter. At Purdue he starts now. He gets to proposition himself to the NBA right now. If Kentucky goes to the elite 8 they merely achieve minimum expectations. If Purdue goes to the elite 8, which next year they just might, think of the salivating and coverage this guy gets next year. I just hope he picks Purdue. That be a win win for him and the college.

It is now reported that Michigan, Kansas, Arizona and NC showing interest but Purdue strongly in the picture.
Oh wait........ Just in on twitter that all division 1 schools are in the mix, however Purdue will be an option if all other D1 schools isn't a fit when classes start next fall.

In 5 years at Kentucky, Cal has 19 kids drafted. He's likely to have 7 drafted this year which would make 26 in 6 years. Painter has had 4 drafted in 10 years at Purdue. Obviously, very different schools with very different levels of talent coming in. But you can't make a legitimate argument about how a top 20 kid should pick Purdue over Kentucky because he will have a better shot at the NBA. Leaving a legacy, being something special to your state, joining a solid group and being the centerpiece of that team to lead them to glory, etc. can be arguments, but I can't blame a kid who wants to go to Kentucky to propel himself to the NBA when he is a top 20 type.

If Swanigan is a good as advertised, it won't matter what school he goes to for his NBA chances. He will get drafted anyway. In terms of stat sheets for NBA scouts, he will probably average more points at Purdue than Kentucky.

True, but a Top 20 kid would make it to the NBA even if he played at Directional U. Playing time is important and Cal, the coach, recently stated he made a mistake in his platoon system and would not be doing that again so the playing time for some Top 20 talent is going to go down if he does what he claims he is going to do!

I do think CS offensive game is much more suited to Purdue's motion then Kentucky's dribble drive/spacing offense, especially since he can solely play the 4 at Purdue. I could see CS struggling to get post-up opportunities which is his strength.

A 4 or 5 in their offense needs to be able to consistently hit 18 foot jumpers when the defense collapses on the driving guard or have the athleticism to explode to the basket when the defense is trying to recover to them. Neither of those two are strengths for CS from what I've seen of him.

Sure you can make that argument. He would be a featured player getting lots of touches at Purdue playing in a system (motion offense) that accentuates his best traits and hides his weaknesses. At UK he would be another cog in the machine fighting for minutes and touches with a bunch of other 5 star talents. They already have a more talented player at the 4 position, so he may get shifted to the 5, and he would be playing a style (dribble drive) not suited to his biggest strengths.

I think that Calipari would use Swanigan heavily as a weak-side rebounder. It's a valuable role, but not necessarily the primary role that Swanigan wants.

Agree CS fits here just on PT alone at the position he covets. However, given the fact CS already showed a desire to play with elite talent that Zo was putting together, as a young person CS could just as easily be drawn to the playing as part of the #1 recruiting class (if he goes to KY) and more importantly the media hype of playing with that talent at KY.

Not arguing where he would be best utilized, just with the post that discounted Kentucky and Calipari's ability to get him drafted. He would likely have superior stats at Purdue and be given every chance to be the man, but considering draft position alone, Kentucky has a superior track record for top talent. Now someone like Willis made a huge mistake if getting drafted is a major goal because he will likely leave KY without ever playing meaningful minutes. He is like a walk-on there.

Guys like John Wall and Anthony Davis could have spent their year after high school playing for the Washington Generals and still would have been high lottery picks. Rosie Barnes is savvy enough to see past the raw numbers and will ensure that Swanigan does the same.

Yeah that's silly ky every year has a top 3 class. Obviously going to be full of nba draft picks..... Very distorted facts

Of course you can. Swanigan has a much higher chance getting drafted by playing 30 mins a game at the four at Purdue, rather than playing 15 mins per game at Kentucky.

Players get drafted by developing, not because Calipari takes these poor 5 star one and done and is the prospect whisperer.

Literally nothing Cal does helps a one and done get drafted. A one and done is a one and done wherever he goes.

Swanigan may not be a one and done, but if he wants to be, Purdue is his best option at playing time and position to develop.
