Caleb Swanigan

Will Biggie return to Purdue for one more season?

Five more days and the speculation will be over. Does anyone know the final workout dates for Edwards and Swanigan?

You made it sound like I and others were bashing going to Europe. I simply pointed out that it was very unusual for a freshman to leave for Europe. I think there was one example given of someone doing it, so yeah it's unusual.

Don't really understand what your point is. You jumped in and "defended" going to Europe and I said it would be highly unusual for a freshman to do it. End of the story for me.

My original note was to a very specific quote that wasn't even yours. And it had nothing to do with what you are talking about. I couldn't tell you what you posted before you responded to me about something completely unrelated. I still don't understand why you took my response to a specific comment by someone else as me challenging your opinion..

I've explained it twice and I'm done. If you don't want to read the thread and figure out what was said by everyone then just drop it. You're beating a horse that is already dead and now so am I. Let's just move on.

The majority vote is that Swanigan's coming back. He has a workout today. I'm not sure if Edwards has anymore left. We're getting down to the wire!

I read that Edward's doesn't have any left.

Also read where Biggie is going to talk to Barnes AND Painter before he decides... so take that for what it's worth.

Watched the interview on G&B. Caleb is a very confident, well-spoken young man. Seems all business and I respect that. I do feel like he's coming back and will be an absolute monster for us next year.

I thought Noah Vonleh should have come back for another season, but he was a first round pick. He spent a good part of his first year injured and playing in the D League. He played in 78 games for Portland and averaged 25 minutes per game this year. His stats weren't impressive, but he is getting some work. I would see a similar path for Swanigan. He may not get drafted, but he will sign and play next year in the US. He will either break into the league or be on to Europe within 3 years. I believe he will catch on somewhere and have a solid career.

Too many players go bankrupt a few years after playing. I would only hope he makes good decisions moving forward.

Don't recall a one and done that had less impact on his college team. Wish him the best but don't see him in the league until he improves.
Here's a list of 1 and Dones that did way less than Swanigan, and this is just this years crop of kids that declared, and off the top of my head.
Cheick Diallo
Skal Labissiere
Stephen Zimmerman
Malik Newman
Isaiah Briscoe
Deyonta Davis

Saying Swanigan had little impact on our team is ridiculous to say.

Most of those guys went to schools that were pretty loaded talent wise. And pretty much all of those guys were expected to be 1 and done when they came in.

I'm not saying Caleb didn't do a lot for Purdue in his first year here, but numbers-wise, he'd be just like those guys if he was at KU, UK, or MSU.

Vonleh is bigger than Swanigan and lot more athletic and he is still only 20

Thats not even close to accurate. You realize he lead the big 10 in rebounds, as a frosh right. Arguably the toughest conference in the NCAA. While playing on the same team as a 1st round pick (Hammons) and 2 other possible future draft picks (Edwards and Haas).

Davis was out rebounded by his PG (Valentine). Zimmerman played again Mountain West teams and still didn't do as much as Swanigan. Diallo played a big 7.5 mins a game, averaged 3 pts and 2.5 rebounds. Skal Labissiere was the #2 player, and only averaged 6.6 pts and 3.1 rebounds in a weak SEC and averaged less in both than Derek Willis did. Newman was supposed to be Miss St's best player and didn't even average more ppg than a fellow freshman on a 14-17 team (he was 4th on the team in scoring).

I think Swanigan easily could have put up the same #s as he did at Purdue or at least better than the previously mentioned 1 and Dones at their respective schools.

Yeah, I just saw a report on the local news with Swanigan. He has one workout left tomorrow and then he will probably announce his decision tomorrow evening.

Seems like there may be some other media hints that he is gone too. My guess is that it becomes official tomorrow.

It's certainly a strange situation - and Swanigan seems a bit clouded. Kravitz states NBA people are telling him ("loudly") he needs to stay in school, and Swanigan is saying nobody has told him to go back to play college basketball.

There's a disconnect somewhere.

Whatever the decision is, I'm ok with it. If he's deadset on this dream, so be it. If it's that big of an obsession, last thing you want is for that to consume him if he feels he should have gone after one year (which, in his defense, people hyped him as a one and done kinda guy). I don't really get the injury argument given he won't really be making guaranteed money - and if he broke his leg, he could go play in the D-League/Europe easily after that anyways.

Interesting there hasn't been any chatter on Vince. I think everyone and their mother assumed he was coming back, yet has held his name in still.

135 have said he will return and 72 have said he won't. He has to announce tonight if he's going to return.

He really knows how to drag things out, doesn't he? Either way, I'll still be rooting for the Boilers next season!

I might be splitting hairs here Nage, but I think he has until tomorrow (25th) to announce. In other words the way I read the rules he has until the end of day on 25th. I could be wrong but I read that several different places.

65% say he is going to come back to Purdue. That is wrong. More like they are HOPING he comes back.

My understanding is that he automatically forfeits his remaining eligibility if he doesn't announce his decision to return by midnight. Maybe he's waiting until 11:59 to announce.

My mistake, you are correct Dryfly88. He has until the end of tomorrow to decide.

I voted that he would come back but not because I wish or hope he does. My preference would be he comes back but I don't feel that strongly about it. We will be a quality team either way. The reason I voted that he would return is due to the overwhelming logic in that choice.

He's not the only one that hasn't announced.

(Dramatically) "It's over...it's finally over." The majority were correct! Woo-hoo!

Yes, the logical choice wins! Staying in the draft without be even sure to be a 2nd rounder would have been crazy and Caleb and Barnes look like smart people that can make a good choice. So I'm happy that I voted correctly, even though all the talk about him going pro made me really nervous...
Biggie will be a beast next season, I predict he will be in serious consideration for B1G Player of the year.
