buckeye 4 star WR Caleb Burton in portal

The portal is beyond ridiculous. Coaches aren't building a program anymore, they're creating a team year-to-year.
I think it’s great. A lot of players get D1 scholarships based on their junior year of high school and can’t play at a division 1 level. Now.. Kory Taylor goes and maybe some late bloomer from a small G5 school gets a spot ..

We could always use another WR. I am not too sure about Wright coming back. Broc will be great if healthy, but that is a big question mark. Yaseen has not been healthy enough either.

To be honest, NIL/Transfer Rules are dictating that the coaches do so.
I don't complain. I don't think its coincidence that Brohms 2 best years came in years where you could plug huge gaps via the portal. We definitely got more out of the portal than we lost over his tenure here and I for sure hope that Walters keeps that up. Holstege (and maybe Miller) are the only 2 guys I can think of losing that had any impact here and then potentially somewhere else.

I think we get the best of both worlds....the ability to get guys to develop and stash them a bit and allow them to....and the guys that don't or don't want to be here can find opportunity elsewhere. I think overall the transfer portal isn't going to make us into the next UGA or Alabama....but if theres a solid foundation of talent here, good player development and hole plugging we can consistently be 8-4 and potentially better when the stars and schedule align.

As a Purdue fan, thats all I really ask for!

Most people don't like it, but the NCAA created this mess and now as a program, you either get on board with it or get left behind.
On a macro level, it’s going to eventually drive down TV ratings, subscriptions, interest, etc, if

A: the haves can just swoop in and buy the have-nots’ best players.

B: every year, each team is a brand new group of 1 year semi-pro mercenaries.

I agree. Right now I'm in a wait and see mode but if the current turnstile aporoach isn't more related to a staff change than an ongoing approach, I will probably find other things to occupy my time.

I’ll still go to some games, mostly because I have kids there, but probably won’t watch many on TV if it gets to the point where we aren’t competitive.
