BTT - #14 USC v. #6 Purdue: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Really was encouraged by Colvins aggressiveness on offense. Didnt hit as many as he liked, but to him making moves around his man was nice. Not sure what's up with all the missed dunks from him though.
Trey's pass was not meant to dunk in one motion, but Myles tried to dunk it. great idea by Trey, but he needed it to be up beside the rim!

Painter was right to stay confident with Heide as he weathered his shooting slump. Purdue needs his shooting threat out there. Offensively, Heide, Colvin, and Cox are providing enough to allow the Big 3 to excel. I would like to see Furst get back to being the inside scoring threat that he was earlier in the year, but overall I am not worried about Purdue’s ability to score.

On the defensive end, teams like USC with their athleticism and talented 1 on 1 scorers are going to be tough for Purdue to match up with, but if they can do a little better on the defensive boards, it will go a long ways. Again, it was nice to see Heide step up down the stretch, probably the difference in the game.
they were playing 4 to 5 behind the arc to force more individual D. Part of the help D increased towards the lane has some players watching the ball too much. My bigger concern was how tight Purdue was. Before the game they had a picture of fletch and his look of seriousness seemed to be that of concern or pressure. That thought could be completely wrong though. I look for a better game today

I think they’ll be looser today. Pressure off from the first game and now they are the “underdog” based on seeding…even tho they are favored by 2.5 today 😂

Go beat Michigan. Purdue is the better team. Wonder how May will have his guys guard Braden.

Does anyone feel like Braden got within 6 feet of the basket a lot last night and could have drawn fouls or got a lay-up but just... didn't?

We will need a lot more out of Furst in the match-up. I do believe we are the better team, but it hasn't shown lately.

I think we'll see Smith be more aggressive today. If, everyone can rebound. We should win.

looking around, there were a lot of close games last night won by last second shots and free throws. I hope our players were taking notice. Boiler Up !

and limit the turnovers.....which they did in the 2nd half, just one of the overall 10.

Minutes distribution was interesting - top 5

Smith - 40
Loyer - 34
TKR- 30
Heide - 30
Colvin -21

Thought Cox might play a little more just because of his better ball hawking (when compared to other team options).....hard to 100% blame Caleb Furst when he gets switched out on Claude on the wing.

Tonight should be interesting - a third tussle with Michigan, on a neutral court.....can the Boilers exact a little revenge for the tough ending in Ann Arbor, which started the slide?

similar to what Wisky did to us

What was that fadeaway from TKR?!? That had to be the first time he’s ever done that haha
yea, it was terrible, I thought the damn thing was going to go the bankboard, once again it looked like Trey was trying to draw the attention of the Refs w. that but they are not going to call that in that situation

There was still some time left on the shot clock, but maybe he was screened off and thought he had to get that up.

Otherwise, yeah......that was Reggie Warrington level bad.......it was so bad that......

It hit the top of the backboard 😂

He’s been so sound all season and he just malfunctioned there haha. Good thing it didn’t come back to bite the team. I bet he won’t be shooting that ever again haha

It was a good response and finish by the guys. Heide had his best game all year and Colvin played well too. Braden had a bad shooting night, but fletch and TKR picked him up on that side. But he was very good facilitating. Gotta somehow get our defense better and stop all the damn ball watching that allows teams to back cut so much! 😂
Fletch is the glue guy. He scores in double figures about, if not, every game. Without him, this is a team with a lot of losses. Maybe it's a result of being on the team with TKR and Smith, but I think he'd be the same somewhere else.

And just think what Mason Gillis would have meant to this team.

I typed during the game last night that I would like to see Purdue run a few times without the high screen so that players can't double Braden...especially last night when USC had their main players in some fouls difficulties. Not sure I would set in a 1-4 low (or across the baseline ) unless the best set was to pull all the help away from Braden. Maybe two across FT line and the other two in corners and maybe run some screens with the wings some and get Cam/Myles coming off a screen for a single dribble and dunk if not defended well. Anyway, I'd like to see that since Purdue doesn't clear out except for Trey. Not sure Michigan has the bigs with enough quickness to double well against Purdue. Now Wisconsin did a great job with their 7 ' player (Winter) doubling off the high screen and forcing Braden out farther than most teams...

I don't understand the semi on the ball pressure at or around half court when they were bringing up the ball. Pick at half court nudged our guys a few times and then on multiple occasions they took it all the way to the hole. Drop back and keep the ball in front of you. We're already giving up too many layups during offensive sets, don't let them have one when bringing the ball up the court. Head scratching.

Exactly. I’ve seen how you overreact so I can tell all I need to know about your understanding.
And I’ve seen that you live on this board 24/7 and are an insufferable wannabe know-it-all, so that tells me all I need to know about your level of knowledge. Notice how the only engagement we have is when you start it. I typically avoid you.

Just rewatched it a half dozen times from three angles. I wish I could record the 3rd angle. It's pretty clear Yates just fell.
It looked pretty clear to me just on the game replays. He slipped. Did Braden have a hand on him? Probably. But there was no push or anything. They just had a timeout so I wonder if the floor wasn't wiped up enough.
