I did not even follow recruiting this year because it was kind of a lost cause. With recruiting it is not so much a one year thing, let alone a 2-3 month thing. My hope is he focused while out on Juniors as that is where you make some hay and develop a two-year relationship. Glad he at least offered kids the previous regime did not, even if you don't have a chance you have to do your due diligence.

We will see what we look like February 2018. If it is not at least in the Top 10 (in the conference), then it is a concern.

What if he goes 9-4 with next years' team, would that change your opinion! It was fun following the professional recruitment of this years class so imo you missed out on something!

"I did not even follow recruiting this year" & "Brohm gets a mulligan"
I'm sure Coach Brohm is relieved to know that someone with your keen sense of college football is giving him a mulligan.

If he did go 9-4, won't happen, it will be with Hazell's players. At most two of these kids could be the reason they go 9-4- like Tiller's first year, other than Vinny Sutherland and a lesser extent Chris Clopton, that was all Colletto talent. Brees was a backup and most redshirted.

I am not going to trash the guy for having the 14th ranked class; I expected it based on the timetable of his hiring. Outside Top 10 programs or $5 million head coaches, this is what happens.

I agree this year is a pass but the approach of the staff was far more aggressive than we were used to (particularly compared to Hazell's first class). I think you've seen them make great inroads instate this year. Next year my hope is top 10 in the conference. That would be a nice step forward.

From what I did follow about appearances and what have you, he was very visible in Indianapolis which is a fantastic idea and a welcome change. Building a groundwork for 2018.

If he could win 9 next year, he would be a miracle worker with what Hazell left us with. We have a very tough schedule next year. He would definitely be National Coach of the Year then.
I think most people assume 3 to 4 wins next year. 1997 part 2 will not happen. If it does, I would love to be so wrong about that statement.

It will take more than 1 year to repair the damage done by Hazell in Indiana.

Next year's class should be better.

This theory is exactly why Tom Crean has been allowed to stay at IU for so many years. Granted he's made a couple of Sweet 16's, but by many he's considered a failure. Time will tell about this PU hire, just as it told about Coach Hazell. Time does that.

It is`nt just a more aggressive approach....High School Coaches are respecting JB`s football acumen and that when he meets with them he is not only prepared to speak to the player that he is recruiting but also takes the time with the HS coach to talk about the coaches HS program........
You heard it yesterday in JB`s comments and you have heard it mentioned on this post for at least the past three years..........Haze failed at putting in the work that was needed to be successful at recruiting.....Plain and simple.

His buyout is what kept him at IU. reduces to a mil this summer.

The best part of watching the end of the cycle under Brohm was getting to see what a hard worker he is. That's the first thing that mattered about it.

He's a top notch HC. Hopefully he's a guy that wants to stay and build something special and is not an egomaniac that will jump the minute he has any success because IMO he's a star.

I used 9-4 from Tiller's first season as an example of what can happen not what I think will happen! Now those of us who did follow his recruiting and class can see what first happens in the Spring and then Fall camp to see who in this recruiting class is a 1st, 2nd string or redshirt material! I will enjoy the ride!

Even more pertinent is that tiller's first recruiting class, which was put together in 50 days, reached the rose bowl in their senior year.

I'm too lazy to look it up, but is that really true? I thought it was his second. If true, that's truly amazing.
The players who did not redshirt- Brees, Sutherland, Clopton it was their last game. The 5th year guys like Light, Allen, Okobi were Colletto guys. Stratton, Loerzel, Mitrione, Akin (had to JUCO) were in that first class and key contributors.

He also played a lot of true Freshman and RS Freshman on D. Stu, Landon Johnson, Niko, Shaun Phillips, Terrill, etc. That Capital One team was likely Tiller's 2nd best.
