The preseason prognosis according to at least one schmuck in the national media was "Gone are the days of 5,000-yard seasons for Brees ..."

Right. He finished all of 130 yards short this year (4,870) -- topping the NFL in passing yardage again despite playing with a throwing shoulder injury that limited him to 15 games and a torn foot (the same injury that paralyzed Peyton Manning for weeks) that Drew played through for two 300-plus days to cap the season.

Brees has had four of the eight 5,000-yard seasons in NFL history, while no one else has had more than one. He's moved into the all-time top fours for career yardage and touchdowns. He already has earned his own wing in Canton. And he's not done yet.

Watched the game today as I have for many years. Cannot tell you how many times I took both my kids with me to watch him at wherever they showed all the games. Ever since his Charger days. Both my kids are living in CA now, but we all still watch him and talk after the games. He is amazing with his accuracy and the number of players he gets into the action. I appreciate you posting Born Boiler, he is a joy to watch

Brees is pretty much the only reason I still watch the NFL. With the WWE-like spectacle the NFL has turned into, and Morgan Burke turning Purdue into a national punchline, I probably won't ever watch a game again once he retires.

I've thought that recently also regarding the NFL.
It's great to see defensive guys like kerrigan, avril, short, ninkovich do well but its tough to beat the impact and enjoyment of watching the QBs, especially when they faceoff like brees and Orton had

I know his heart is with New Orleans, but I would love to see him go to a contender to compete for another Super Bowl in his final years. Just don't think the Saints are anywhere close defensively. Another ring would really enhance his legacy. Could you imagine if Peyton is done Drew sliding into Denver for a couple years or back home to the Texans with Hopkins and that defense?

Denver likes Osweiler. Texans makes sense if they have cap room.

Either one may be a possibility . While watching Manning come off the bench yesterday, I couldn't help but think this is Manning's last year and Osweiler is not the answer. If I'm Elway, I'm finding cap room for Brees. He has at least 3 good years left and Denver is turn key ready.

Brees cap number is massive next year. He will have to take a pay cut for Denver

Could they not extend his contract, add a few more years and spread the 2016 salary out? It's just painful to watch him toil away on that Saints team.

They could, but he is due 30M for this year and then he is a free agent. Thats a lot of cash to negotiate away

Maybe he needs a Bobby Bonilla contract! Spread that 30M plus another 30M or so over 30 years and call it a retirement plan! LOL
Or just stay healthy and wait one more year..

Brees has been nominated for the FedEx Air Player of the Year.

He's up against Brady and Palmer, who both finished well behind Brees in NFL passing yardage this season despite playing more games. Brees led the league in passing yardage for an NFL record sixth time (although he's won the FedEx award only four times). He added to his NFL record with his 10th straight season of at least 4,000 yards passing and had his eight straight year of at least 30 touchdown passes, also an NFL record.

Since Brees is viewed by the talking heads to be unable to make downfield throws, leading the NFL in yardage will be a shock for many.
