Yet again.
Has there ever been a player go from league POY talk to not even one of the best pg in his league as quickly as BS?
All the yips and jumps in the air with no place to go from 3 years ago.
The regression is startling.
And now he can't shoot much. sigh....
This has gone from team that was more than the sum of its parts to now less than the sum of it's parts.
Is ANYONE playing well? (no)

Understand the frustration. Braden was not good. Purdue collectively lost their sh$t. Braden is a great player but as you pointed out, does things that you'd not expect from a great player in his junior year. Maybe the best thing for this team is for Braden not to win BTPOY and for Trey to end up second or third-team all-conference.

Colvin was today in all aspects

C'mon man. This isn't a good time to be hyperbolic. Braden had a bad game, but he'll recover. We just don't know what's going on behind the scenes here. Maybe he's fighting the flu or something.

If he were sick, I don't think CMP would have said the things about him post game that he did.

This team lacks a bench. Yes, Colvin played a decent game today and Heide has played better over the last few games, but these 2 players were non existent over 2 months. Berg showed today why we have him only been averaging 7 minutes a game. Burgess I think will be a good player, but right now Painter does not have much confidence in playing him meaningful minutes. Harris has shown times from time to time that he has the potential.

What am I saying? We have absolutely no depth or bench scoring.

Painter really only has confidence in his 5 starters right now, and that is it. I mean who can blame him with no one else showing up consistently over this season. Smith has played way too many minutes, and I believe that he is mentally and physically exhausted right now. I think Trey has also shown this over the last 2 to 3 games too. Who is going to relieve them when we don't have the bench to do it.

This team has always had a veteran like Jones over the last few years that was the 6th or 7th man in the rotation. We did not get that in the last Portal. This team really needs more reliable depth We don't have it. I hope that go after some big man depth in the off season in the portal. We could also use a backup athletic wing along with another shooter. You say how do we the roster size to do that. I am hoping that we have some players like Berg leave after this year to free up some needed roster spots.

Did Smith have a bad game today? Absolutely! Has his performance over the last few games been as strong as they were at the beginning of the season? Of course not, not even close! Don't put this on Smith's shoulders though. Just think where this team would have been without him this year. We wouldn't even make the tournament.

The frustration is starting to run deep with this team, and I understand that, but we need to pull together and not be putting blame where it should not fall.

Idk how Berg is averaging 7 mins a game, but he's basically not played at all thru conference games and it's blatantly obvious why that is.

I still would like to see more of Berg. Heck TKR, Furst and Berg have all been dunked on. Not seeing much from Furst offensively lately so give Berg five or six minutes.

Smith’s role changed this year and I’m not sure exalted to successfully fill his new role. The last two years he was the floor general and distributor. And he looked to pass first and didn’t try to score. But this year he is expected to also be a shooter and take shots. That was jones role last year. He’s also supposed to be our best defender in the back court. That was also jones role last year. I’m not sure who Purdue misses more, Edey or jones. We sure are making a lot of turnovers and our defense needs improvement.

Hell, give him more time and tell him he's getting more time. Let him know it's his time to show improvement.

And EVERYONE has been dunked on.
Confidence goes a long way. When a player is getting a minute or two of PT per week, it's almost impossible to get into a groove. He needs more reps.

IMO Berg isn't so much "slow" as he is lacking anticipation. It's a catch 22. He doesn't have anticipation because he doesn't get enough PT to learn from his mistakes. And he doesn't play much because his play suffers from lack of anticipation.

The Mike Tyson quote “Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face” applies here. In the second half, IU punched us right in the nose and we had no response. That was a character revealing moment for us.

We can't afford for the amount of time it would require Berg to catch up to the anticipation at this level. We aren't so good that we can give him OTJ training.

If you are going to do that, do it in games we are leading by 20 pts in the second half but Painter hasn't done that much this season either.

If nothing else, there is zero chances he jumps to the NBA now. Literally zero.
After this past season’s NCAA tournament loss in the sweet 16 round, Purdue had arguably their two best women’s volleyball players enter the portal, and join teams that the belief is, that stood a better chance for an NCAA championship.

Just throwing this out there. You never know.

Perhaps he should have. Berg or Burgess might have been better prepared at this stage of the season if he had. Now both are non-factors. Why doesn't Paint own up to this? Always blaming the players.

There is zero question we miss Eden more

Here is my 2 cents - Braden started forcing things instead of calming down. When he is getting all 5 guys involved - that is when we got a 12pt lead. When the lead started disappearing - we went 2 man only. He and TKR started playing selfish ball and stopped playing a team game.

That fun/joy that was missing the last month was back in the first half. Not sure what the hell happens in the locker room and why we start out like a stale fart but something has to change.

Season isn’t over - got 3 games left to make a statement before the BTT.

If we don't have Smith next year, it will be because of this. It won't be because he went to the NBA.

Will some team throw a figure out there he can't refuse? Could happen.

Braden as in the past has burnt out tired and when that takes place so does decision making. Part is in minutes the other part is everything he holds inside(head) carrying the whole team. Feel bad for him. Bench weak , especially Berg. Unless CMP goes to portal this is not a FF team next year. But the right forward and Lance Jones could change that let Jacobsen s role first be a shot blocker defensive player , TKR offense.

He needs to get more these last three games because we need someone to improve a bunch. And Furst needs to shoot when open. You don't become Mr. BB in Indiana if you don't score.

Yeah, and while I’d hate it, I wouldn’t be mad at him. He’s gotta do what’s right for him and if fans are going to throw hissy fits when he has a bad game, why stay?

However, I don’t think he leaves. The team next year is easily top 10 with everyone returning and if they add 2 portal guys easily top 3.

He runs the risk of going to a team that has to restart, get the right chemistry or they could end up being like IU or KU. And again, if he wants the money, I don’t hold ill will towards him. More so would be mad at ncaa for not having a better solution to transferring whenever.

Braden seems to want to be here and make history with Purdue. But man some fans need to chill and stop acting so entitled.

If Furst started shooting while open and missing, we’d start to hear the same things ppl were saying about Colvin and Heide (they seem to be trending out of their slump).

Berg isn’t improving that quickly in 3 games. I do think we should have him for a few mins here and there to waste some fouls cuz why not.

You did see Braden hit him in the face with a few no look passes at the beginning of the year, right ?

Berg doesn't get enough in-game minutes to improve. Some of Smith's passes have hit other players in their hands, face and/or ankles.

This reminds me of Morton. Come in the game to do one thing and don't do much of anything else, but less minutes.

I just don't think Berg has played with anyone quite like Braden in Europe. Takes a while to get used to playing alongside a crafty passer like that. Again, more reps needed, but not enough time left to make a difference.

He’s played alongside Braden for 3 years now. He had a whole summer this past year by himself to get ready for those passes (I say by himself as he had no competition from edey anymore and he was the starter).

I mean, how many passes actually bounced off his face? One? Without naming names, the alternative is to pass to a guy who seemingly lubes up his palms with a stick of butter.

Two or three in game and others where he wasn’t ready/couldn’t react quick enough.

Furst at least can guard laterally, or was showing he could.

I won’t argue, go ahead, throw berg in. Just don’t want to see ppl complain on here when they see why he hasn’t been playing.

Nah. I don't want to replace Furst with Berg. But Willie has 5 fouls to give, so why not use a few? Especially against teams that can't shoot the three. Use him situationally, and when he's in have him roam the lane and make things congested.
