So many time when he is pushing it I am yelling at the screen to slow down and then he is outnumbered and causes a turnover. Today was another one. Houston up by 4 and we get the ball and start to push. I'm yelling to slow down and then out of nowhere Smith tries a half court alley-oop to Colvin. Then throws it out of bounds. Could have gotten within 1 or 2 at that point. I felt like that was a huge momentum killer. Him leaving the inbounder on the game ending play sucked. Oh well. Without him this year our record would have been very ugly. Just a bad time for a brain fart.

It happens, he tries to make stuff happen and he’s our only creator on offense. I’m certainly not too mad at a guy who just had 15 assists to 3 turnovers against an elite defense.

Aren't you the same one that was bashing Furst in another thread just now and saying you hope he gets booted next year? Not knowing he's a senior and going to medical school next year. Maybe follow the team a little closer and learn more about basketball. Or stop drinking at halftime.

Purdue’s best chance against that elite halfcourt defense was to go before they got their D set. It didn’t work on that play but it was absolutely the right thing to do.

Man - tough crowd tonight. Houston has lost one.....ONE game since Thanksgiving weekend......and that was to Texas Tech. They are a defensive beast, and they hounded Smith all game.......was he perfect? No, far from it, and yeah.....some of his decisions we all questioned......but he was super solid and a rock. Houston didn't play A game but they were not sleep-walking......credit both coaches (and I begrudgingly do that for Sampson for other reasons) for being prepared and getting their guys to play with a ton of effort.

Purdue also did a great job on Cryer as well, who was tearing everybody up.....maybe he was overamped to play Purdue.....don't know.

I hope Smith and everybody else comes back with a chip and hungry......and looking to finish business started with the Big Maple. Super disappointing, but you can't fault the effort, and they showed some toughness I hadn't seen enough of this season. Take the adversity and use it to fuel next year.......see what happens.

JMHO

No issue with that pass from smith. 15 assists to 3. Best game Purdue Has played all year.

The team only had 6 turnovers was probably a season low. They did a great job on Cryer defensively. It was a tough loss on a grade school play.

By the way, Braden’s 3 turnovers:

Pass that was clearly a kicked ball by Houston
Pass up the court to Myles that he probably should caught
Alley-oop that was a little high but would’ve blown the roof off if they had connected.
I was wondering if they gave that to Braden or Myles. I guess it was like a quarterback putting it right in the RBs stomach, but the RB doesn't get it. The fumble goes to the QB.

Hope that helps fuel the run for next year and has everyone come back. If we can play like that on defense and execute next year plus our typical offense, we are going to be very tough.

How many times you think Braden’s gonna watch this tape? He played great under so much pressure, and sure, he made some mistakes. He played as well or better than I can imagine any other Purdue PG I’ve seen play under that kind of pressure. He played better than past year Bradens would have played. He’ll play even better next year.

He had a brilliant game, 15 assists against the best defense in NCAA, that whole game plan was to double him and keep him from scoring and he performed near flawless. You should go root for someone else, if u don't like Braden.

Braden had a great shot at finishing this game as Purdue's all time leader in turnovers but came up 8 short of the record breaking achievement.

One of the really big needs for next season is someone to significantly relieve some of the ball handling pressure. I think Cox and Harris can rise to the level needed but I wouldn't holler if they got a real pg either. A super quick defensive minded pg would help this team too.
Braden needs a decent break or two to stay running at 100% when he's on the court. Yes or no on that is going to go a long way toward our chances of being big time.

He also said JI shouldn’t/wouldn’t be a lottery pick.

Off the top of my head he threw the ball away unnecessarily at least a couple times (e.g. the too-high pass to Colvin from the other side of the court). He was also one of the players in proximity to the inbounder who left him open at the rim. There must have been a communication breakdown. My post was meant as high praise; there are no mistake free perfect games played by anybody in a game like that. Braden played amazingly, but I bet he watches that tape multiple times to dissect the errors & improve his game. I assume this is the diligence & mindset great players have.

Smith was awesome. MJ and Kobe had a few bad plays each game. 15 assists and 3 TOs against number 1 defense with the ball in your hands for 40 minutes is crazy good.

I wish he would have looked to score more, but it wasn't really there.

You know you are ELITE when the expectation is perfection.

Stop burning my fries!
Middawg really thinks he has good one liners. He comes here once a season because IU is so terrible and you just know he used ChatGPT or been thinking for a long time. Then he drops it and is like “omg, this is SO good!” And then says it and it shows how stupid he really is.
