Welcome to this week's "BOILING OVER," GoldandBlack.com's weekly Ultimate Ticket information-clearinghouse and analysis column meant for our subscribers and our subscribers only.
We appreciate everyone's cooperation in helping us keep what is sometimes delicate information confined to this message board.
We certainly don't want it to come to this, but if there are problems, subscriptions have and will be canceled over this.
We know there are a lot of blogs out there and a lot of you are on Twitter and other message boards, and we don't want to come off like Darth Vader here, but we would be doing all our subscribers a disservice if weren't proactive about protecting the value of their subscription. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
Additionally, we address recruiting in-depth and often without filter in this feature and we do it behind a subscription-protected barrier for a reason, in hopes of avoiding situations where our reporting can impact the recruiting process, which can happen occasionally. So again, we appreciate everyone's cooperation very much.
On defensive end Mathieu Betts, who was supposed to decide by yesterday whether he was going to commit to Purdue or not.
He has not committed.
Does that mean he can't come to Purdue anymore, as was agreed to this weekend?
No.
Betts said this morning he has talked with Purdue and the offer remains on the table.
We expect him to visit Temple this weekend and he still has the option to play college football in Canada.
Surprising, because he sounded Sunday night like he was going to commit. (BN)
Louisiana defensive tackle Fred Brown, as we told you days ago, is visiting Purdue this weekend and now holds an offer from Purdue.
The Arkansas State commitment has to be considered a prime candidate to flip.
Purdue needs at least one more defensive tackle and may have to hold on for dear life to their other DT commit … (BN)
… that being Eddy Wilson, who has apparently turned down Iowa - he said he is not visiting there this weekend - but says, "It's between Pitt and Purdue."
Is he visiting Pitt this weekend - his last weekend to do so?
"I'll know by tonight," Wilson said in a text message.
Seemed like Pitt was out two days ago. Now they're not. Now Iowa's out and Pitt's a co-finalist (with the school he's committed to), if he visits, which he might not.
(Head exploding sound.)
Purdue does not want to lose its only DT commit. (BN)
Purdue is still in the market for an offensive tackle, apparently, as reflected by it bringing in Keyshawn Mcleod, as we expect as of this moment, this weekend to come, as we told you days ago.
Mcleod is a Tulane commitment who does not yet have a Purdue offer, we don't think.
In addition to Brown and Mcleod, committed athlete Evyn Cooper is making his official visit.
We assume their will be more, DB remaining a spot where they might bring somebody in.
Isaac Warren is not visiting this weekend after committing to Northwestern State this week. Purdue obviously withdrew there again. (BN)
Purdue has Florida defensive end/tight end Nick Raby on campus today for an unofficial visit.
He has a preferred walk-on offer. (BN)
Potential development on the Cameron Watkins, a DB who people down there tell us the Big Ten can do a lot worse than.
Here's guessing Illinois has an eye on the package deal at least to some extent.
Watkins also just got offered by Vandy.
It is conceivable the lure of playing with Watkins could factor into Vaughn's recruitment.
Vaughn is down to Purdue, Illinois, West Virginia (which he visits this weekend) and now Louisville again - Vaughn's second final three has become a final four - even though Louisville is beyond loaded at running back. The running back they wanted more than Vaughn committed to Notre Dame, thus taking Notre Dame off Vaughn's list.
Got all that? (BN)
On Purdue commitment Chazmyn Turner: We don't believe it's set in stone yet he is visiting West Virginia this weekend, but he has expressed interest in doing so. The Mountaineers are loaded at D-end so if he doesn't, it might just be a matter of them saying to hell with it.
Another situation to monitor. Purdue does not want to lose its only high school D-end commitment. (BN)
You know this already put Purdue offered Lawrence North freshman Kevin Easley Jr. yesterday, making it the first school to make the plunge on the talented young forward.
Purdue has watched him countless times now, most recently for his game against Southport just last week.
We've had no time to get any recruit reaction from last night, but will check in on some guys.
Joey Brunk was among the other recruits at the game. (BN)
Join us tomorrow at 2 p.m. for 'Gold and Black LIVE,' our Internet television extravaganza.
We'll talk with Purdue equipment manager Mike Shandrick - deflation may come up, we'll see - and former Boilermaker basketball star Walter Jordan, along with our usual chatter about football and basketball.
If you miss the show, a replay will be provided around dinnertime.
