Welcome to this week's “BOILING OVER,” GoldandBlack.com’s weekly information-clearinghouse and analysis column meant for our site members and site members only. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping us keep what is sometimes delicate or proprietary information confined to this message board. This feature allows us to be more flexible in our reporting, to our readers' benefit, and we lose that ability if we can't keep this feature secure and the value of our site's membership at its peak. Additionally, we address recruiting and hiring processes in-depth and often without filter in this feature and we do it behind a subscription-protected barrier for a reason, in hopes of avoiding situations where our reporting can impact the recruiting process, which can happen occasionally.

So again, we appreciate everyone's cooperation very much.We know there are a lot of aggregator blogs out there, and a lot of you are on Twitter and other message boards. We don’t want to come off like Darth Vader (before he turned good at the end of "Return of the Jedi" of course) here, but we would be doing all our subscribers a disservice if weren’t proactive about protecting the value of their membership.

PURDUE FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Here's this weekend's official visitors as far as we know at this moment.

The first tight end to visit for this class, Kenrich looks like he's going to be a Virginia Tech-Purdue-Iowa State decision after he visits those three schools back to back to back.

We'll get more info from Perry tonight, but he's a 6-foot-6 wide receiver who we're pretty sure Purdue Is recruiting for receiver as opposed to tight end.

The Louisiana wide receiver has really emerged this spring, and has Purdue and Florida State offers to show for it to this point.

We've had a hard time getting much info on Thomas lately but do know Purdue's recruiting him as both a running back and cornerback, and that could be an advantage for them.

One of Purdue's linebacker targets. May be tough if Georgia Tech really wants him, but Purdue's getting a visit. They have a lot of linebacker balls in the air, with a decision likely to come from Roman Pitre after his ASU visit on the 18th.

Purdue's getting a good deal of traction on these Louisiana kids and should get a visit from Dubose, who holds an Oklahoma offer among many others. He named an eclectic top six a while back of OU, Purdue, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Oregon State and Jackson State.

The Louisiana defensive tackle was just offered this week and will visit right away. Maybe a commitment possibility.

PURDUE FOOTBALL RECRUITING

Purdue did host defensive tackle Mariere Obomone from West Lafayette High School this week for an unofficial visit and we think an offer could be in the works In the near term, and that offer could conceivably yield a commitment.

Obomone is right around 6-foot, so he's not the physical prototype for defensive tackle, but he's done well on the camp circuit this spring and Purdue has always seemed to like his speed, quickness and burst

We've always gotten the sense that Purdue would find a way to try to get him in the class and that could be happening in the form of a summer offer.

Stay tuned.

PURDUE BASKETBALL RECRUITING

The first two official visitors of June show up this week, as Tarris Reed lands at Purdue today and Camden Heide arrives tomorrow.

Reed, the top-100 big man from St. Louis, just visited Michigan State and now Purdue and that may be it for June. No decisions are going to be made any time soon on that one, and we'll see where Purdue ultimately lands in terms of those in contention.

Heide obviously may be much more interesting, as Purdue's long been the leader In the clubhouse for him and at one time seemed on the verge of a commitment. Heide's been in no rush, though, but now that visits are taking place and Purdue's got two scholarships tied up again, maybe there are some additional forces at play.

Far as we know right now, this is the lone official visit Heide has set, though Iowa State, Minnesota and Virginia Tech are recruiting Heide, too. Hard to envision ISU or VT unseating Purdue, and while Minnesota has worked Heide hard, we've never gotten the sense there's much impulse on his part to stay home, and Minnesota is in a tough spot right now anyway. PURDUE BASKETBALL RECRUITING

• Purdue will bring in commitments Fletcher Loyer and Braden Smith for official visits, too.

Loyer is coming next week, June 14-16, and Smith is coming the 16-18.

• No visit set yet for Jalen Washington, he said. But he said again last night that he will visit. Admittedly, it would be nice from Purdue's perspective for a date to be Ironed out. Talks have centered around the last weekend in June.

• Braden Smith — all 5-11/6-foot of him — boasts a nearly 37-inch vertical leap that he showed last night with a series of two-handed dunks during pre-game warmups.

• Still haven't written that story on Myles Colvin, but the sense we get from talking to him and his dad the other night was that they're going to wait to see what happens in mid-June when schools can start calling 2023s and go from there. Wouldn't surprise us at all If by the end of the summer, Purdue has its first 2023 commitment, but they are going to go through some measure of a process, at least.

PURDUE FOOTBALL RECRUITING

The June 23 camp might be an important one.

Ohio offensive lineman Shane Keenan, who we expect Purdue to offer, will be there that day, as will Michigan corner Tyler Bivens, who claims a Purdue offer but Purdue may need to get a look at camp. We saw him at Rivals camp and size is not really on his side. Bivens is spending June camping all over the place looking for offers.

Purdue's first camp session this weekend yielded offers to elite 2023 in-state receivers Joe Walker (Warren Central) and Breaunte Johnson (Fort Wayne).

Walker has been compared favorably to David Bell at this age; Johnson is an obvious national recruit in football and a high-major level of basketball prospect, too. Purdue maintains a good deal of sway with wide receivers, so these will obviously be two players the Boilermaker staff tries to lock into early. (BN)
