Welcome to this week's “BOILING OVER,” GoldandBlack.com’s weekly information-clearinghouse and analysis column meant for our site members and site members only. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in helping us keep what is sometimes delicate or proprietary information confined to this message board. This feature allows us to be more flexible in our reporting, to our readers' benefit, and we lose that ability if we can't keep this feature secure and the value of our site's membership at its peak. Additionally, we address recruiting and hiring processes in-depth and often without filter in this feature and we do it behind a subscription-protected barrier for a reason, in hopes of avoiding situations where our reporting can impact the recruiting process, which can happen occasionally.

So again, we appreciate everyone's cooperation very much. We know there are a lot of aggregator blogs out there, and a lot of you are on Twitter and other message boards. We don’t want to come off like Darth Vader (before he turned good at the end of "Return of the Jedi" of course) here, but we would be doing all our subscribers a disservice if weren’t proactive about protecting the value of their membership.

PURDUE FOOTBALL RECRUITING

OK, kids, so Portal Season is upon us, and while there will be no official visits at Purdue this weekend, we are expecting there to be a bunch next weekend, probably included a number of transfers.

There will be some high school players, too. Purdue just offered Pike safety Joseph Jefferson, to name one possibility.

Here are some of the transfers Purdue is recruiting, with next weekend's visit list probably likely to reflect who they'll have real chances at.

Jared Verse: The University of Albany defensive end has three years of eligibility left. Nebraska and West Virginia are some of the other schools who have offered.

Miles Frazier: The Florida International offensive tackle is another three-year guy. Auburn, Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss and Texas A&M have offered, too, so this one may not be a possibility.

Hunter Nourzad: The Cornell offensive tackle is a grad transfer, but should be a multi-year player, since he really only played two seasons there (following a redshirt year and not counting last year's canceled season). Syracuse and Nebraska have offered, too.

Tyrese Chambers: Another FIU player, Chambers has hit the Portal after catching 45 passes for 1,047 yards and nine touchdowns. Purdue has a good deal of cachet with wide receivers, obviously, so this might definitely be a possibility. Indiana, Arizona and Syracuse are some of the other offers.

Devell Washington: The former Purdue high school wide receiver target was moved to linebacker at West Virginia and is leaving to go play offense someplace else. No offer from Purdue that we're aware of, but Purdue's kept in contact with him and told him it would pick things up after the regular season. He has not heard from them yet. The fact they didn't move quicker on him and get him on campus for a game — or extend an offer — makes you wonder if this isn't a wait-and-see kind of deal.

Tylan Grable: An FCS All-American at Jacksonville State, the offensive tackle will have two years of eligibility.

Also notable ...

Jared Casey: The Kentucky linebacker visited Purdue a bunch during high school but never had a committable offer, we don't think. Late In the process, he got a lot of attention and wound up at UK. No Idea if Purdue wants him now, but there's a connection there, at least.

Jordan Watkins: After a strong freshman season, the Louisville receiver is transferring. Purdue has connections there to, having recruited Watkins before and having background with his trainer. Watkins caught 35 balls for more than 500 yards this season, so he's a relatively proven guy. I can't remember if Purdue offered him or not, but he was committed to Kentucky before flipping to Louisville.

Josiah Miamen: No idea if Purdue is looking for a tight end, but It did recruit the Iowa transfer out of high school.

Amir Siddiq: The Central Michigan defensive end is another played Purdue dabbled with out of high school and has been a productive player for the Chippewas. He's a two-year grad transfer.

Josh Griffis: The Florida State defensive end was a Purdue target out of high school. He committed to Louisville first.

Expect offensive tackle and defensive end and maybe defensive backs to be Purdue's biggest needs, but don't be stunned if they look for a quarterback if Aidan O'Connell doesn't come back either.

We've reached out to as many of these guys as we have contact info to try to pin down offers/interest/visits and predictably, responses have been minimal.

PURDUE BASKETBALL RECRUITING

Swedish big man William Berg is at Utah State right now and will be at Purdue starting tomorrow for his official visit.

You already knew that, but a reminder.

Every indication is that Purdue's in a good spot here and obviously, it should be.

Whether he'd commit on the visit — provided the visit goes OK, which they all do — or go back home first, we don't know.

Oklahoma shooting guard Parker Friedrichsen was scheduled to make a return unofficial visit this weekend, but those plans have changed. May not matter all that much. We'd be surprised if he went anywhere other than Nebraska when all is said and done.

PURDUE BASKETBALL RECRUITING

If you're looking to go watch a bunch of Purdue recruits play, check out this weekend's Sneakers For Santa Showcase at Brownsburg High School.

Fletcher Loyer and Homestead face Carmel at 4:45 p.m. and Xavier Booker and Cathedral meet Brush High School from Ohio at 8:15 p.m.

Info here.

Purdue had Booker at the Florida State game the other night. We'll get some comments from him after the game Saturday night. Needless to say, the more Purdue gets him In Mackey Arena this season, the better.

We do believe Purdue will have a real shot there, and it will help them for him to see Caleb Furst out there playing away from the basket and shooting threes, because Booker would be a similar 4/5 type.

The other visitor we know of for the FSU game was Franklin 2024 Micah Davis. (BN)
