Other than getting the no-brainer Brohm hire right, which he ruined by following up with Walters, what has he done besides riding some legacy coaches like Painter and Shondell to some success?

And this new thing about him threatening students for chanting about Walters is really bad. In the same ballpark as the Nancy Cross email about donors. My suggestion to the students would be to chant "Fire Bobinski" instead as I don't believe the AD was included on the list of people the students can't express their disappointment in.

And even if he does fire Walters eventually, is he the guy we really want hiring the new coach? The same guy who oversaw......or should have.....the Walters hire?

Fire Bobinski first.

Totally agree!

I agree that Walters was a galactically stupid hire in hindsight, but what made Brohm a no- brainer?

Bobo certainly deserves derision for hiring CRW, but he also deserves praise for hiring Brohm ( even if he was clueless about Brohm ultimately playing Purdue like a Stradivarius 🤢😳) …

I'll give him credit but any goodwill anyone can give him for Brohm has been more than washed away by the Walters hire.

And I think anyone who was paying attention when we hired Brohm saw that either him or Fleck were the two names you could walk away with and be ok. Identifying him wasn't the hard part. Perhaps he deserves some credit for landing him but if I recall correctly he had to bring in Mitch and Berghoff to do the heavy lifting there.

I might also add that those NIL disciples on this board might want to consider that this is a new world that all of Bobinski's experience as an AD did not contain. It might be best to bring in someone younger who is less conditioned to consider everything from an old-school perspective that may not serve us well in this new landscape.

A coach who uses Purdue as a stepping-stone to an academic skank with zero football legacy in a lesser conference is not a 'right' hire.
Disagree. If we could hire another coach right now who would give us the same exact outcome over the next six seasons and then leave for.....where ever.... I would take it in a heartbeat. The key is not to replace them with a disaster.

They did. Grimes the deputy diversity AD who basically made this hire is straight out of Alabama. If we keep Walters…which it’s looking like we will, it all falls on her.

If the AD is bold enough to delegate the responsibility of hiring the next football coach to someone else and it goes bad, he deserves to go in addition to her.

And I don't think the decision to hire Grimes had much to do with NIL experience as other factors. None of which have seemed to play out very well.

I’ve heard she’s the NIL spearhead in the AD but could be wrong. I’m not connected to the bureaucracy

Could be. Her title of Senior Woman Administrator tells me much. I'm sure her experience helping Alabama football players go pro has served Purdue well.

Grimes' focus for the Boilermakers will involve shaping Purdue's departmental strategy and advise staff on the ever-changing landscape of college athletics. She serves on the department's Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) working group to utilize her expertise in the area, including her previous experience with establishing Alabama's Elite Athlete Program, which helped notable student-athletes from the Crimson Tide's 18-time national champion football program transition into the realm of professional sports and encompassed "The Advantage", Alabama's NIL initiative.

Maybe the university should bring in
“an AD in waiting”
That is Grimes.

Seems like she doesn’t want Walters gone, thinks it’s because we don’t give him unlimited NIL and that’s settled.

If we won 4, I’d agree it would be incredibly hard to let him go with our schedule. Winning 1 with massive regressions…time to move on. I Guarantee the people who hired him don’t see it that way.

We wasted an opportunity during the bye week. Everyone that wants to keep walters only does so to save their skin and isn't interested in what's best for the program. I feel like they were hoping for a win against nw to show progress . I hope that's not the case.

I thought you were kidding about the "diversity' part of her title. I looked her up, you weren't kidding. Spending money, whether it's Purdue or IBM, on a 'diversity' position is just stupid. I can't wait until all this DEI garbage is over. Hopefully soon now with a new sheriff in town.

As I said before, when your team quits on the field, it's a bad sign, when your recruits start decommitting, it's even worse, but when your student section (at a basketball game!) starts chanting to fire the football coach, it's undeniable because now you've lost the fan base and the $ will follow.

The no chanting request is the silliest thing I’ve seen an AD do.

Makes it clear to me they think the students are wrong and are keeping him.

"Hey students, not chanting mean things. You might hurt someone's feelings": Sincerely, the Athletic Administration.

This ship is sinking more quickly now.

Well at least we won’t have students chanting FIRE WALTERS at football games in 2025…

If bobinski doesn't fire walters this season I 100% agree. I didn't like the walters hire 2 or so years ago, for a myriad of reasons key among them defensive minded coach wouldn't be able to keep good offensive coord in w. Lafayette.

But I don't blame him 100% because the coaching cycle was in the late season. Fickle to wisc. Satt to Cincinnati, brohm to lville. There wasn't any purdue guys left so we took a gamble on a young unproven coordinator. It's fine but there should have been someone helping him hire his coaching staff. Harrell was a red flag 2 years ago as if you asked a wvu fan they wanted his lack of air raid offense out the door.

That said you can gamble but you have to evaluate it after each year and this year by week 6 it was clear we need to cut. If he is trying to save a few million that speaks to his leadership. We can't compare Walter to Hazell firing process as purdue was in flux with dova to mitch and Morgan Burke imminent retirement.

I'm so over him. Never thought he was responsible for anything great here. Most people just praised him because they had complained about Burke for decades and he wasn't him.

I do see your point regarding how this all unfolded but the signs of Brohm leaving had been there for years and people covering the team seemed to know he was leaving at the end of the season. Might not be ideal timing but it is the most important part of his job to make it work and it could not have turned out much worse than it has.

And also if he delegated the responsibility to Grimes then he deserves the criticism for it if it goes bad.

Making the B1G championship game was awesome at the time, but it really threw a wrench in the hiring process. Set us back a week vs all the other schools.

Brohm leaving was the worst kept secret in Lafayette, it was clearly a done deal by the end of September. Perhaps he fooled BoBo, or gave Purdue an opportunity to counter once it became official. Either way the AD is exceptionally well not get caught without a plan B when it was so apparent where things were headed months ahead of time.

Agreed, and when the students pushed the uncomfortable button with the chants, the AD dept. did like it!!!!
Out of the mouth of babes....

Yeah.

I was OK with Bobinski staying, but if he thinks Walters deserves a 3rd season, then he’s clueless and needs to be fired stat.

Last time I looked the AD was responsible for generating revenue, and all sports. The last time I looked a University President was to establish academic integrity and generate revenue. Their #1 priority is NOT to build a winning football team at the expense of other academic and athletic priorities

You people need to get it into your head that the world does not revolve around Purdue football. The world and Purdue Univerity are doing just fine without a winning football team.

Our golf and baseball team are doing well. The women’s volleyball team is awesome. Our diving team had several Olympic divers. The track team has improved. The men’s basketball team went to the final 4. The big 10 network has provided increased revenues. All of this success, and you want to fire the AD? BOBO has done an awesome job! The football team sucks but still plays to sold out crowds. What other college can say the same?

As for our university president, I highly doubt football is her #1 priority. She doesn’t bow down to the football team. Rather they should bow down to her. She’s the one who helped negotiate the big 10 network deal, not any football coach. Brohm didn’t negotiate that deal, our AD and President did.

It’s time you people opened your eyes and realized what the purpose of a president and AD are. And that the rest of Purduecand the world doesn’t revolve around or bow down to Purdue football.

The significance of Purdue football and its fans is very minuscule when compared to the overall purpose of this university.

So go buy yourself a PBR and start crying in it. Biitch all you want! Complain and argue all you want. Saban is not the President of Purdue University. Our President is concerned about research and academics. Football at Purdue is an extracurricular activity, not a core essential!

Can you just go away?

On top of being obnoxiously annoying you miss the whole point.

Football is the cash cow. We currently suck at it. Continue to suck at it we could get left out of some SEC/BIG super conference.

I understand you don’t get it but if I were you I’d stop showcasing that fact hourly on this board.

Jeepers, I was unaware that Mung Chiang had gone transgender. Did that include the Frankenstein surgery on the genitals or just the hormone injections?

Agree, grimes needs to go too. Let’s get back to hiring people based on merit.
I'm not comment on her job performance at Purdue, but I think you all need some clarification on who Grimes is. She is the Deputy Athletics Director/Senior Woman Administrator. Purdue did not invent this position to make a feaking DEI hire. It was created by the NCAA in 1981, and 99% precent of schools have one. She held the same role at Alabama, and now has returned to her alma mater. To imply she was not hired based on merit is ignorant.

I wasn’t talking about her.
