Who performed better yesterday? Methinks it was Purdue's ex-coach.
I do think Shoop's hands are tied with AA's lack of accuracy downfield. But, daggumit, that jump-pass b#llshit is just stupid. Too skitzo of an offense. Never really seemed to settle in. Performed well at times, but it was feast or famine. Ran the ball like crazy... but those were TOUGH yards by Knox and Jones. Didn't seem to get that one extra block to spring them into the second level (maybe Jones' TD run was the only one). Never, ever throw intermediate passes over the middle... to a releasing RB. One slant-in for a catch. Everything else was horizontal.
Meanwhile, Legg's hands were tied because Purdue absolutely STUFFED the run for most of the day. He was paying attention, because by the fourth quarter... knew the hole was intermediate routes over the middle. Time and again, the LBs couldn't cover the TE or receivers 15-20 yards downfield. Almost looked like they were giving up. Their QB was stellar when it mattered... how they get a D2 kid from James Madison to succeed whiel Purdue can't seem to get guys to play worth a salt for 5-6 years now... hard to imagine.
Kudos to Legg, had to be pretty sweet redemption for him. A big, giant F-U to Morgan and his high-paid, underachieving OC, I'm sure.
