Biggie ran the mile today...

I have to give the kid credit, that is impressive. I certainly like the work that Caleb has been putting into his body. Keep it up Biggie and you might lose your nickname!

Wow my seventh grader runs about a 5:40 mile ran a 6:04 as a sixth grader. He is 64 pounds 4 feet 11 inches. I get that the mile is harder for tall people, however I still had to throw in that dad bragging moment.

That seems really impressive for Biggie. But that's even more impressive for a 6th grader.

Maybe not - it's been so long since I ran the mile.

I remember Rob had a really good time his freshman year. Painter called him a "horse". That's the first time I was really excited about Hummel.

Sub-6 is impressive for a man Caleb's size. I was concerned about his conditioning, but not nearly as much after hearing that. Training with the Purdue staff and losing some pudge is doing him so much good.

From watching Caleb on the USABB U19 team this summer, I thought he seemed quick but not fast (he was often near the back of the pack in transition). I will happily have my perception be changed in November - hope so.

I think I remember hearing Rob ran the mile in just over 5.

Robbie ran it in 4.45

Larry Bird's best time was 5.09

Purdue guards need to run it under 5.30. Bigs under 6.00

Fact that Biggie did 5.41 right at the start of his freshman year is a good sign that he is in shape. Not impressive, but good for him and the team

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that he appears to be improving his stamina....

But I would be more impressed by someone running 3 miles in 20 min as opposed to one mile in 5:30.

Good start. Omen of good things to come.

I look back to Hammons as a frosh. People forget how far he has come. Guy couldnt go hard up and down the court twice without grabbing his jersey and looking to the sidelines. Was actually similar to Jay Simpson as far as conditioning at that point. My how far he has come. So Biggie doing this ALREADY shows me something.

Would be interested to know if anyone has info on Hammons mile time as a frosh. I know it is an obscure request but would like that comparison....

Most accomplished distance runners, in my observation, have very slender frames. Biggie has the frame of an NFL tackle. I am very impressed with the time.

I agree that it's a good indicator that he is getting into very good shape for a freshman big man.
What I think would be interesting is to see after a short rest (2-3 minutes) what his next mile time is. In fact I would like to see that for all the players. I'm an endurance athlete so I'm just curious doesn't have any real basketball implications (probably why they don't do it)!!

Davis was on Dan Dakich's show today and had great thing to say about how hard Swanigan has been working and about the strides he has been making in improving his strength and conditioning.

He also said that Haas and Hammons have both lost a lot of weight and have made great strides in conditioning.

Davis had great things to say about how hard AJ is working and about how motivated he is. It sounds like going down to John Lucas's camp was really good for him.

How did the upperclassmen (Davis, Hammons, Stephens, Smotherman, Johnny Hill) do in the mile run? I figure that they would have pretty good times.
The only other time I heard was Haas. Davis was talking about his conditioning and said he ran a 6:18, I believe. The lost weight and extra mobility should really help Haas on defense.

4:48 mile qualified you for sectional when I was in HS. (been a while). I recall many BB players who would have been cut if they had to run under a 6:00 mile.

Caleb was set a goal of 5:45 by the coaches so his 5:41 is even more impressive to me. Appears this kid is a hard worker willing to do what the coaches ask.

Isaac was given a goal time of 6:20 and got a 6:16 from what I have been told. This offseason has been dedicated to conditioning and based on what his father told me, Isaac is much improved in his stamina/endurance and his drive to push himself to the limit everyday. I see him challenging for minutes in a major way this season. The non conference schedule should be fun to watch as AJ and Isaac battle for playing time. Trust me that while Isaac admires AJ and looks up to him, he is driven to be the best! Can't wait!! #BoilerUp

Been a while here, too, but a 6-minute mile was an A grade in my high school gym class.
