Biggie doesn't look quite as big....

Agreed. I bet he will be around 6'9" 240lbs when the season starts. He's going to play better than he ever has before. Can't wait for November!

damn, we're going to be big in the front court! Actually, we'll have a big starting 5 no matter what and a pretty good sized second 5.

Haas is down like 15 pounds and he was a very low body fat percentage at 300 pounds. It appears our strength and conditioning program is doing some good things for the players. That, and I think this group of guys really understand that it takes hard work to get to the next level as a team.

Ran into a rail thin AJ last week he looked like the freshman version of Jacquil Taylor . I posted a few picks on twitter . He said he was 243-245 . Seemed way too thin for me but I am sure he knows what he is doing . For what it is worth I ran into him outside the weight room where he was going before the ISU game . 7 year old Grandson still has a smile on his face because AJ recognized him from the BB camp .

That's very cool that AJ recognized him. What is your twitter handle?

I think AJ looks fine. If he is replacing that 'baby fat' he had with lean muscle, he is of course going to look much slimmer. As long as he retains strength, he'll dominate more and more as he'll be able to compete conditionally speaking with smaller players but dominate them on the defensive and offensive end. If you can get a 7'1 player to run the court and not tire (Dirk N.), you are talking about the potential for a special player. Also, he would need to be at that weight to prove to scouts he can be more than just a 5 minute a game guy because those types of big bodies can be found all over. What NBA scouts and teams want is a big guy who is able to run up and down the floor with the pace of the game, rebound, and have an effect on both ends of the floor on the block. That's what AJ appears to be able to do now.

Freshman Taylor and AJ now are non comparable. Saw AJ a few days ago. Looks lean and mean, not skinny. Taylor was about 210-215 last year, AJ is 250 according to the strength coach. Big difference. Even now in practice with Taylor being 240, AJ looks much bigger.

I agree. I am looking forward to seeing an even more mobile Hammons than we saw last year. With increased mobility and continued progression, I think that he can be one of the most impactful defensive players in the country. Improved mobility last year allowed him to defend the pick and roll, close on shooters, and pretty much defend every shot in the lane. Recently, Davis said that Hammons' conditioning has improved to the point where he is running with the guards during drills. I am expecting great things from AJ.

Meanwhile, I can't believe that Swanigan transformed his body so quickly. Based on what I saw during his high school championship run, I had doubts about whether he was fit enough to defend the four in the Big Ten, but seeing him now, my concerns have largely been addressed. I think that he's a little under the radar nationally, because he didn't match up well athletically in the McDonald's All American game, but I don't think that he will stay under the radar for long.

I felt Caleb would possibly be a two year player over the summer.
I think it's beginning to appear that he is all in on the one and done scenario.
His work ethic and focus seems to point at a very good season for Purdue this year.
It seems the entire team is on board for a special year and have been putting in the work to make it happen.

Boiler Up!

After watching the video of AJ banging Biggie on a post up, I'm not too concerned with AJ's strength. Losing weight doesn't always mean you're losing strength. Man, I'm excited about this year!

I love it. A slimmer AJ will be more fluid, agile, athletic, faster, quicker, have a better transition game/able to match his opposite, & have more stamina/pick up fewer fouls/pick up fewer cheap-tired fouls. He'll be able to leap higher, quicker, & more, while encouraging his teammates to do the same. He'll be more able to lead by example, be more fit & trim, rerady to kick more azz, take more names, then come back for more, & do it all over again. He'll experience fewer injuries/weight related/stress fracture injuries. Go AJ!!!

His knees, ankles, feet, shins, & heart will thank him for it, on & off the court! A more physically fit/healthy player, is a better player!

Bottom line, he'll be more NBA ready!!!

Love to see AJ in a Pacer uniform!

Coach Painter is going to have these guys ready to run [if necessary] from day/game 1!!!

Go Boilers!!!

Exactly, part of the reason the Pacers got rid of Roy Hibert, [other than $$$/contract] was his immobility/lack of court transition speed [got burned by his smaller, quicker opposite too many times, & in transition] & he didn't score enough, on a team that needed a little more scoring.

You see the Pacers going in that same athletic, quicker/faster, better/faster transition direction team this season, & with good reason. Coach Painter wisely seems to be making sure his Purdue team isn't transitioned to death, overly tires [as a team, & to a player] during the game, & is ready & able to handle all the full court, non stop opposition presure, any & all opponents can throw at them. This a very wise move on Coach Painter's part. We know size & strength [basically] aren't a problem on this team. If we can curve the team speed statistics a little more in our favor, the sky is the limit.

Go Boilers/AJ!!!

It looks like getting entrenched in the Purdue offseason workout has slimmed Biggie down. He's going to be a beast.

Wow. I hadn't seen Big Swan much since Painter swooped in and snatched him away from East Lansing but I gotta say the kid looks svelte!

Looking forward to our matchups this season. Your front court strength vs MSU's backcourt. Should be a good time! Our PF's and C's will have their hands full.

I hate to keep repeating myself, but my prediction is that AJ will play more PF. He will learn to play better 1 on 1 D and hopefully get his game offensively like Big Frank. I would continue to move Biggie slowly. Keep improving his game by learning the difference of playing alongside Haas and AJ. Give him a reason to come back his Soph year. Have him and the whole team wind sprinting up and down the court to tire out the other team and we can substitute freely giving everyone enough minutes.
