Big Ten is Purdue and 9 in the Big10/ACC challenge

I have zero use for those peppermint-pantsed douches, but they gave a superlative effort.

Duke is on another planet compared with everyone else in CBB.

A 10 points victory against IU? And was IU was winning with 5 to go. Good? Yes. Another planet? Not even close.
Ok perhaps a bit of hyperbole on my part, but nobody looks as poised or as formidable... they will have their off nights, but their ceiling is unlimited — those freshmen are all the real deal, and they’ll only get better.

When MSU chooses to play hard and defend...they are a monster. That's likely another game where it could be in the 50 to 60 point range when they play Purdue just like it was against UL.

Bagley is superb, but I think they make many mistakes. They play very young.

Purdue is the only Big Ten team with a winning record in the Challenge

Seriously???

I’d sell my soul to have Purdue play as “ very young” as the Doochies are playing!!!

They’ve been flawless with their execution in crunch time of the repeated comeback wins.

To me, that’s the exact opposite of “playing very young”

Agreed. I can't think of a more talented team to ever play (at least that I have seen play).

The very....very little I saw of the game...there was NO defense! Perhaps it was just when I watched a few minutes, but during that part Duke allowed Hartman with his blazing speed to start behind the arc and shoot a reverse layup. Is Hartman that quick that nobody can remotely catch him or get in position? It was also during this time that some announcer said that this year IU would have to play a dribble drive and kick out since they have NOBODY on the inside to throw to the post...and I thought...I know damn well Davis would see the ball had he went to Purdue...

I've watched them 5 or 6 times this year, and they are extremely good. They have 2 top 10 wins, a win against Texas, and a win on the road in one of the toughest environments to play in.

I would expect them to be good...just like I would expect Zona to be good, but in the few moments I watched...THOSE were not good moments for a good team. Perhaps they play to the level they need? Now, none of this is to suggest that IU couldn't field a good team, but when Hartman does what he does against the talent of Duke...it is easy to see at the time Duke was not playing D...and announcers...God luv'em they do soooooo many games it must be hard to really know about the players...like Davis

Could they play down to their opponents? Sure. That doesn't change that they are the best team in college basketball and it isn't close. They have played the toughest schedule of any of the top 10 teams (until MSU plays ND tonight), and they are undefeated. This Duke team will go down as a historically great team.

Side Note: I'm not a Duke fan, but I respect the hell out of Coach K, and love watching his teams play.

IU repeatedly ran their offense through Davis in the second half. He finished with 7 FGA and 9 FTA. He played only 3 minutes in the first half due to foul trouble. Really hurt IU because when he was in there and they got him the ball on the low post they couldn't stop him.

Couldn't agree more. Coach K is probably the last coach that has built a dynasty the right way and it is amazing he is still doing it now.

I think CMP is in the same mold and will eventually take us to where we all want to be.

My conversation on that game was that they didn't play defense during the moments I saw. I imagine they could be a great team and they may have played great ball, but I would have went f'ing ballistic if Hartman drives that far for a reverse layup with the athletic talent on Duke. My points were never whether Duke was good...whether Duke was great...it was ONLY about the few moments I saw and there was NO defense. Would you be embarrassed if you had Duke and Hartman covered that distance for a reverse layup? I would.

Maybe Duke played D the rest of the game and I just caught a few seconds they didn't?

so you are agreeing with me that the announcer that said IU had nobody on the team that they would play through the post on was nuts?

I only care about winning. I don't care how my team wins as long as we win. Lot of embarrassing moments so far this year for Purdue, but we have also done a lot of winning. That's all that matters.

Is it true the BIG 10 and ACC determined the match-ups based on creating interesting games rather than having teams with the same standings in their conference face each other? I can't believe Purdue and Louisville or Duke and IU finished in the same rank in their respective conference last year! I liked playing Louisville but felt a little slighted Purdue didn't play Duke or UNC.

If DDavis hits his freethrows and TrippyTripperson misses his hero ball shot, the candycrushers could have won...Their defense was not impressive at all. Their offense is crazy good and they have a couple of prototype athletes at forward who cover a lot of mistakes.

That is fine. I talked about no defense. Relative to THAT topic did Duke play D? I'm not comparing Purdue to anyone..and not comparing to any embarrassing moments. However, I can't recall anyone of Hartman's speed dribbling into a half court set and covering that distance against Purdue. None of this has anything to do with Purdue. I just didn't see much D the few moments I watched. If you were a coach and had that much talent would that drive have upset you? If not, that is fine, but for me that was REALLY poor D

Correct, to be fair I don't recall when that was said and if Davis was in the game or not. If Davis was in the game the announcer was nuts. If he was not in the game the announcer was spot on.

The comment was that NOBODY on the IU team was a post presence and THAT is why they needed a dribble drive and kick out offense THIS YEAR...according to the announcer. I took THAT to include Davis which we know was nuts....

Excellent post -you make some great points—I was so impressed by Dook’s offensive prowess, and execution, but you’re spot on regarding the defense — iu was consistenly able to spread the floor and get to the rim throughout the whole game... perhaps it’s a combination of a long road trip , against a nothing to lose opponent, but Duke was pourus on the defensive end last night.

No. ESPN makes the pairing selections.

Well, I couldn't speak to the whole game, but when Hartman can go that distance there wasn't much help...and I assume IU is a bit more inside and less of a threat that you have to hug your man away from the ball which could be an excuse for being slow to get there. I just saw a few minutes...and missed MSU tonight. Being on ESPN I can catch it on Roku... ;)
