I've been watching hoops in Mackey fairly regularly ever since it was a 7-year-old (1974), and I can't recall a longer, more-sustained, more-heartfelt standing ovation than what everyone gave Josh Speidel upon being introduced for Vermont.

It began as a great tribute and was soon made greater when his former AAU teammates, Cline and Weatherford, led the entire Purdue team over to hug Josh and his family. One of the Vermont players said that brought a tear to his eye.

Great job, Baby Boilers, for showing the way!

Sitting in Mackey I can honestly say it was a moving experience, felt by all adults in the gym...

Was very cool, I will admit I did not understand the whole story until I read about it the next day. But it was something special to witness and be a part of

agree with this BornB. I've been to more than my share as well. Also, apparently cline and weatherford were visibly shaken (crying) as they hugged josh before the game. As told to me by those in seats very near where that took place. I was upper deck....

Best wishes to the young man and hope for nothing but the best. May God bless Josh and his family...

Good to hear these accounts and much appreciated from one of the posters who can't make it back to the area for games quite yet.

We need more moments like these in life, and it adds some refreshing perspective.
