Back to the freeboard world

Guess I will have to grab what news I can here now since cancelled my subscription. Why pay to be abused for political beliefs when I can get that for free.
I did that as well a long time ago. I don't have any "ill will" towards those that pay, it's their choice, there was just never any value in subbing for me.

And I have a feeling no matter who wins in November, the whole political climate is only going to get worse.

I agree, I think it will get worse before it gets better. I've found myself scaling back my online presence everywhere because of it. Have a feeling it will be pretty much completely gone before the end of the year.

I just hope I can enjoy Purdue football with out politics, though I am not overly optimistic on that front either.

Sorry, didn't mean for this degrade in a political message, it's just sad it seems inevitable anymore. 😢

The major issue is that we have allowed individuals to convey there is a political right (fascism, dictators) and a political left (socialism, etc). It is a spectrum moving left to right where dictatorships and monarchs are on the far left and anarchy is the far right and the amount of power concentrated is the focus. We have also allowed the misconception that we are a democracy permeate through society when in fact we are a republic that allows for the rule of law and not the rule of the majority (hence the electoral college). Allowing true democracy allows for what amounts to mob rule and nobody wants that. We have moved to an oligarchy where the powerful elite are in power and the laws laid out for the republic are being ignored. If both 'sides' realized that and fought for that concept, we would all be better off.

The political divide was brought up and my explanation was that the issue of a divide between right and left is a stupid one. All of us should be able to agree mob rule (democracy) is a scary thought and one that shouldn't come to fruition. This is why we have the electoral college in place. We also should be able to agree on 'both sides' that oligarchy should be avoided (Clinton's, Bush's, Koch's, Bezos) and that a return to a true republic is needed. But alas, division is easier than cooperation.

Yes, completely agree. You lost me on the entire facism/dictator part. I'm not sure anyone views it that way, or at least the majority don't, or at least sure freaking hope not. Along the same lines, I don't believe you can assign that to a party side. It seems which ever party is in the oval office, there might be a bit of that going on. One issue I think that has been going on for a couple presidencies now is the power of the oval office and the amount of executive orders issued with people thinking that is law. I do think something could be done to reign in power there as the Executive branch isn't the one meant to make laws. But then you also have the issue with legislative branch becoming so partisan anymore, that they almost refuse to work together and nothing gets done. Just way to much of people trying to run their political agenda down people's throats anymore.

While I believe in what I believe to be your overall sentiment and point, I think you have a lot of political terms messed up... The more major ones that I see are 1) that dictators can be on the right or left, it really has nothing to do with their political persuasion. 2) the electoral college has nothing to to with not being a democracy, it has to do with small states representation in the presidential vote as well as congress (although one other purpose was theoretically to prevent a demagogue from being elected, and there are a lot of people who would say it failed that purpose). 3) Anarchy is generally more viewed as being a state to the far left (look up Anarcho Syndicalism for an example there). In any case, I definitely agree about your point that we have moved to an oligarchy and the laws of the Republic are being ignored, and everyone should be fighting for that...

purdue was more divided on:
gold vs. black home jerseys
shades of gold
I hated that shade of puppy shit gold that Mrs. Tiller forced on us. Vegas Gold, I believe it is. Then there is Hawkeye yellow, WTF, man! I dont want to wear hick colors! If I wanted to do that, I would wear that red and white stuff (although most IU fans are not smart enough to know that red and white are not their colors) Dammit.
