I actually consider this a good metric for coaches. Generally Vegas is unbiased with few exceptions. Coaches that beat the spread exceed expectations. #2 in the B1G is Brohm behind Bielema (although I suspect he isn’t #1 if you include his years at Wisky). Allen is #13.

I’m thinking this is more a reflection on the fan bases. Purdue fans are relatively pessimistic and certainly aren’t betting big money on success. It probably takes a line way out of whack to get them to pony up. IU fans on the other hand are quite delusional on how good their sports teams really are and drive the line towards IU.

I totally disagree. Extensive research over many years has demonstrated that betting lines are very efficient. If anything, the data says that Brohm is a very good coach as he adds value in a very efficient betting market. Remember, spreads are set by the distribution of betting assets and move accordingly. If spreads appear too large of small, other and pros step in to take advantage of the inefficiency and move the line back to proper equilibrium.
