As disappointing a loss as that was

I still feel positive about this team. Prior years problems were glaring and not fixable during the season. For instance, mid year it's hard to develop your outside shot. It's hard to develop when your leader (AJ Hammons) doesn't bring the effort every day.

This year is different. I think we are seeing normal issues that teams (made up of kids) struggle with throughout a typical seasons. For instance, patience, shot selection, valuing each possession, finding yourself out of position on the defensive end, losing your man, not seeing the ball etc.

This year we have a leader that works harder than anybody. Our defense will progress, shot selection will get better, the players will mature. We have the athletes, shooters, hard wokers, and size built for a long tournament run. The team we have has the pieces, Painter has until March to have this team at it's peak.

Enjoy the ride, even though they'll be some games like this. I think we value the season so much, and that makes these losses more disappointing. However, after this season we may have the opportunity to value the tournament more, and the season less.

Outside of free throw shooting I don't think Iowa could have played any better. Sucks to lose when we had chances to win, but I'm not terribly upset by the loss.

I hope Painter's crappy lineups (using Haas and Biggie on the floor at the same time, resulting in getting completely dominated by the opposing team's offensive attack) don't do this team in, come tourney time.

The book to beat Purdue is out:

Use a high ball screen and attack with an athletic guard. Once he gets into the Paint, it's over, as Swanigan and Haas offer next to nothing in rim protection. Either score, get fouled, or dish to a wide open shooter.

No reason why Purdue's more athletic lineups shouldn't be used down the stretch of games.
