Ok here is my rah rah thread…

Let’s single out some players who you have a new appreciation for 4 games into the season.

Mine:
(1) Horvath. The offense is night and day different when he’s playing. Can be counted on to make the first man miss like nobody else in the RB room. Without him, running lanes become a requirement to move the ball on the ground. Here’s hoping he is only out a couple more games.
(2) George. Multiple triple teams on him Saturday because he was beating their doubles. Enjoy him while he’s here. I knew he was good, but damn he just doesn’t stop.
(3) Fineran. Not just optimistic but actually confident now when the FG unit comes onto the field. Nice little pleasant surprise and very important weapon in games decided by a score.

Yaseen. Playmaker.

I have a feeling Fineran is going to become much more important as the games go deeper into the season. Glad he is in the team, even better than advertised.

Brohm: For turning almost everything around from last year and I think he will fix the offense in the off season.
I have a fair amount of confidence that the defense in general is moving in the right direction even after this year. We need to keep recruiting pass rushers at a high level. I think Hagen understands how to coach DL and can get guys that he wants.

The DB play is SO much better this year. It’s like night and day. We don’t make a play on everything, but we’ve made more plays than I’ve seen in a long time. English has been great.

I love what I see out of the defense. You can just see the coaching oozing out of the players. Confidence is high as well.

If he's going to turn the offense around, he's gonna really need to hit the transfer portal hard. I don't think the current OL has a lot of improvement available unless they're being completely under-coached. And the run game has GOT to get better or they're p&ssing in the wind.

I think our DB play is indeed better but it is helped a heck of a lot by a much improved and more aggressive pass rush. You don't always have to sack the QB but make him move or get off his spot or just have people around him when he is throwing. It makes ability to throw much more difficult. We are doing a great job of pressuring the QB compared to last year. The Defense is so much better than last year it is amazing.

all replies were good but I'll go in a different direction and say kudos to the fans filling up the stadium. These kids deserve it and will need it for the always somewhat sleepy atmosphere of a 12 pm start.
Interesting on that note. I couldn't make it Saturday, tried to unload my tickets to friends and it didn't happen. So Thursday afternoon, less than 48 hours to kick, I put them up on Stubhub through the Purdue app. I had never utilized that setup before. It was tremendously easy, and while maybe I put them up at too low a price, they sold in exactly 4 minutes. Great to see that there's action out there for people looking to buy and go to the game.

Good or bad…the buzz around being at a home game is much much better than it has been in 10+ years. Obviously there are a lot of other factors that go into it…but it’s good to have some life back in RA and not get questioned about why I chose to spend my Saturday doing that when there were far better options available

About the DB play. I have been so impressed with the play of Jamari Brown. If/when Trice comes back, it will be interesting to see what Jamari's role will be.

> George. Last year was weird and he was only a sophomore. There was a moment on Saturday where I saw him sitting on the sideline and thought “this entire defense has seemed to take on a very George like quality.” The praise for this team has to start with George karlaftis, with David bell being an obvious 1a. He seemed to singlehandedly keep the offense going with those drags vs. what is a really good Oregon state team. With David bell, does anyone think we don’t beat Illinois by 10+ fairly easily.

after that you could have a list a mile long. The new defensive coaches, finneran, so many new guys on defense or guys who already were there who got so much better.

while more than thrilled w/ our D this year I can't help to think hopefully we retain these coaches. I remember when Coach Tiller turned the program around, every year it seemed we had one leave.

This is my big worry as they’ve shown themselves to be big time. My hope is that brohm has plugged into a network of good coaches that he just didn’t have access too when he got stuck with debacle
