Reports are out that Appleby may transfer. He has been looking at one school so far. So another year another transfer. Wish the best for him.

Not surprised. Hope he finds success wherever he goes. Seems like a good kid and teammate.

Every school every year has transfers. I hope he stays but frankly we really don't need him. I hope him the best wherever he goes.

I am glad Shoop is gone. He wasn't able to develop the QB's at Purdue. Every year it was the same story. We start a QB and then half way through the season we would start the backup. Now we have QB's transferring. We need more consistency.

The school that has touted itself as the "Cradle of Quarterbacks" now has become the "Graveyard of Quarterbacks". We make fun of Creaning at IU but the ineptitude on this staff continues to destroy the potential of the few good offensive players they bring on to campus.

Whoa. Yes, every year there are transfers and his situation would be understandable. But 2 scholarship quarterbacks is NOT a "we really don't need him" situation by any stretch of the imagination.

Never mind the fact that he ultimately might have been the best of the three, particularly so with Shoop finally out of the picture.

Blough, much like Appleby the year before, regressed as the season went on...and Appleby was rightfully upset with how his benching was handled. The kid always said the right thing, seemingly worked hard and was prepared, and he seemed to have been well-respected by his teammates...his lack of success on the field was far more attributable to the poor coaching he had to work with and the poor personnel around him than anything that he did or did not do.

I hope he finds a place where he can enjoy his final year of college football and that he has a great deal of success.

Having only 2 scholarship QBs on the roster is indeed a significant issue and cause for concern, but the greatest issue and cause for concern remains that Hazell is the Head Coach...having 4 scholarship QBs that were all Elite-11 caliber guys (as would have been the case had Purdue/Hazell not chased off two of them) was not even enough to overcome Hazell as the Head Coach.

Morgan has another excuse for a failed season!

Aa was the king of the humble brag. He was never going to win games for Purdue in spite of how much he wanted to.

Poor accuracy. Poor decision making. He needs to be somewhere that has a strong line and relies on their rb and defense to win games

There's no way he was the best of the three. I didn't realize he's graduating and can play immediately. Why would he stay if he knows he's the third string guy?

isn't it sad though when this keeps happening. tells you what type of program we have.

No because the saying is if you have 2 QB'S you have none. We have had 2+ each year and it's time the revolving door closes. We need 3 scholarship QB'S but if it comes down to the 3rd guy than more than likely the season would be over by then anyway.

I hear what you are saying. We need to have that one quality quarterback. Now that Shoop is gone hopefully that will happen.

You mean like Iowa?
Nope - apples and oranges.
Two quality qbs on the same team with a clearly defined started - and one transfers to a great situation with a great coach.
We have a dumpster fire raging and Appleby leaves the Titanic before they start counting lifeboats.
If you think we are settled at qb for next year you were watching a different team and staff than I was.

I suspect he won't be the last player to transfer. I can see other positions losing some depth over the spring/summer. Will be real interesting to see if the new coordinators leave positions up for grabs or if they will go with the status quo and keep the same line ups. Spring practice will be big for guys on the periphery.

Appleby is a GREAT kid. He's a hard worker. He's a leader. He gets along with everyone on the team and encourages them. I'm sure it's hard to be benched, even with some of the shortcomings that he had (How many times was he sacked or pressured by IU - of all teams? When the IU QB was never pressured or sacked at all by us.)

After reading the story of Western Kentucky, seeing their success, how AA could step in and play next year, it makes sense.

Would he be 3rd string QB after a new OC and QB coach is brought in? Hard to say. I will miss him! Purdue will miss him. I wish him all the best whether he stays or leaves !

You don't think we have two quality QBs? You're right. We must be watching a different team. Because we were a trainweck, but our QBs we have left weren't the problem.

Didn't say they were - I would say qb may be the least of our problems.
But we have Blough, who I like, but clearly regressed or flatlined as the season went on. And Sindelaar, who I think I like but who hasn't played a down and is coming off an ACL tear.
So yes, apparently we are watching two teams because I have yet to see both these guys play a big ten game yet.
That said - all we need is average performance from a qb whomever it is. That is - if we have a competent staff that can call a game and prepare said qb.
I have no confidence that will happen but who knows?

What concerns me is that if Purdue can't be at least respectable with the likes of Danny Etling, Austin Appleby, and David Blough under center, then this program is in real trouble.

I know the history of Purdue as the "cradle of quarterbacks, " but guys the caliber of Drew Brees and Kyle Orton don't come around very often. Plenty of other programs figure out how to win 8 or 9 games without NFL-caliber talent under center.

Purdue better find some coaches who can develop *** quarterbacks into serviceable college players and get some workable talent around them, or this program is in for a long stretch of futility.

if AA or anyone else left, would that give us one more recruit for this years class?

AA will be missed great kid and leader......

We need the following formula:
1) Good O Coordinator
2) Good D Coordinator
3) Good O Line (Haven't really had since Bree's days, had some good pieces but need solid commits who gel together)
4) Good Defense (I think the pieces are there if the line backers can stay healthy and we learn to stop the run first, which takes depth)

I think we have two strong QB's and I think Sindelar starts next year with Blough as the back-up......

I think we have the running back depth as well with Jones, Knox, Green and Yancey, just need the O Line needs to open the holes.

With Sindelar we will go more vertical with the passing routes on the edges and down the middle with our experienced TE's returning and because he has a cannon for an arm, but it will need to be set up by the run.

All starts with who Hazzel hires on O and D coach and if they can get the team motivated to play to win.

Big mountain to climb the next few years to get back to winning ways, but I will support the kids and the effort 100%.

Because as a alumni and fan that is what I am supposed to do, no negativity, just positive support.

Boiler Up!
