Any PJ haters still around?

If we can get this kind of play from him next year . . .

than we won't have the PG problem that we're fearing. Would like to see him shore up his 3 point shot in the offseason.

Never hated him but one game doesn't make him the heir apparent. I hope so but let's slow down a little bit.

I hear you, but the kid stepped up in a pressure situation when it looked like nobody else could. That could ultimately be what gets the Boilers in the NCAA field.....we'll see.

Ref John Hart at Illinois. I'd love to see PJ step it up and bring this intensity every game.

I agree. I have no problem with his play today. He was a huge spark. I'm just not pencil ing him in next year yet. I would live to see him play like this every game and then the job is his.

Painter played him like in the last Illinois game because PJT matches up well against their guards size wise. That is not always going to be the case. Anyway, the young man took advantage of his opportunity and turned the game around solely on his play. I congratulate him for his huge step forward. I was one of those who did not like to see him in some games where he did not match up size wise. But today even I and everybody at our game party was cheering him on big time.....just real tough hard nosed play, caused havoc while he was out there, exciting results today; we were all calling him MIGHTY MITE all day long at our game party..

I think Weatherford will be similar in the havoc department, if not even turned up a few notches

Agreed! Him pulling off the strip steal and bucket, the sick pass to AJ for the dunk, the HUGE 3 in the 2nd half, the other steal, and him pretty much single handedly turning the game around in the 1st half - all of those things take a back seat to Bryson cheering on the bench. Purdue doesn't win this game without Bryson's cheers.

"haters"?? huh?

If they "hate" PJ they ain't Purdue fans.

I love PJ's effort. But...If you're using "hate" as a term of someone who was critical, it's going to take more than one game.

But, "hate"? "I do not think that word means what you think it means"....

Re: "haters"?? huh?

So saying the kid shouldn't play because he isn't a B1G caliber guard and is too small and too slow isn't hating?

Okay, I'll write that one down.

What I really like is how different his game is from Bryson's. PJ is the better shooter; Bryson is the better penetrator. Bryson is broader and harder to get around; PJ gets under guys and annoys them.

We don't need either guy to play forty minutes a game next year. If one can give us twenty-two minutes and the other one eighteen, we could be very solid IF they continue to develop their skills. I don't think either will be as good next year as Octeus has been this year, but together they can make sure there's very little drop-off.

(I'm not confident of the above yet, but I find it less of a pipe dream than I would have a few weeks ago.)

Octeus has shown PJ and Bryson how to play the point guard position at the D1 level. What I like is that both have worked to get better, even with PT not being a given. It reminds me of Porter Robert's play back in the 90's. It is something that we have lacked for quite a while. Very proud of the progress. I look forward to the end of this season and next year!

Boiler up!

PJ definitely has talent and has great potential. His biggest draw-back is his size. Sometimes he just doesn't match-up well, for a true freshman who is still learning defense. Lewis Jackson obviously was small, but he was able to play later in his career more because he learned to play defense effectively. PJ matches up pretty well with what Illinois had - so it worked out. However, when there's a mis-match, right now he's not a guy who can do that consistently.

It's nothing against him, but his biggest challenge in his career at Purdue will be learning to overcome obstacles/deficiencies. In a perfect world, we have a guy who has no deficiencies, but that's not exactly common in college basketball players.

I've been critical of PJ's lack of strength on this board. Always said he seems like a good kid, he can improve, and I was pulling for him. Let's face it, we had not seen today's PJ all year until today. I'm thrilled that we did, and am glad to be wrong. He was the spark plug with that steal and basket. I think he also got fouled on that play. And the 3 later on was huge too. I hope today's performance is a sign of things to come. We will need it next year.
