Any gmail techy experts here?

I'm not terribly techy but trying to help my dad with his gmail account.
here's the issue: He can see emails from today and yesterday, but then it skips all the way to emails in March. Meaning, it's not showing 9 months of emails (Dec-Mar). They're not in trash or spam.
Any ideas?

Maybe they got put in an archive... Use the expanded search capability at the top. Click on that goofy, unobvious icon on the right side of the search bar. you should be able to specify a date range
