Interested in your opinion, Dub. In basketball, I've heard rumblings that some coaches won't even look at incoming freshman anymore, it will all be portal junior/Senior/5th year Seniors (or older). What do you think becomes the norm for chasing the championship in football? Traditionally FB players at certain positions have needed even more time to develop than BB players. Do the other leagues become feeder schools for the BT and SEC, only occasionally going after a top flight skill player that can have an immediate impact out of HS? Do HS players now look at the best "developer" schools, knowing they'll be transferring in 2-3 years?

I still believe that recruiting the high school ranks is important for programs. You’re still going to have a considerable amount of guys in each class leave for one reason or another. (Look back at some of those Brohm classes, before the portal became what it is today). But, counting on only portal guys is a big gamble.

If nothing else, high school players will be valuable depth in a sport that has many more roster spots than basketball, which is the main difference I see between the two. Have to fill the 105 somehow and high school recruits are the cheaper option, as well.

Purdue has added another piece to its growing 2026 recruiting class by landing a pledge today from Izaiah Wright, a three-star running back from Rockwood (Mich.) Oscar A. Carlson High.
